Pajama Sam is the main character of the eponymous franchise. His first appearance in DougDoug lore was in the.. "I forced an Ai to play a kids adventure game," however, he was first mentioned in a stream a couple days prior. Sam, in this context, more properly refers to a collection of 38 artificial intelligences, 26 acted roles, 1 witch, 1 fictional dog, Countless TTS Messages and 2 more characters theorized to exist. Excluding the TTS messages, there are currently 68 Sams. As of 2026, there are 63 deceased Sams, 2 alive Sams and 3 Sams whose state is unknown. Originally, each new iteration of a Pajama Sam would manifest after the death of the previous. These earlier Sams, would, If left alive for an uncertain amount of time, become Incoherent, after which Doug would murder them and replace them with the next iteration. After Sam's original goal was completed, Sams would infrequently appear. From that point on, regardless of whether or not the previous Sam had a confirmed death, unless otherwise proveable to be a previous survivor, the new Sam is given the next iteration. DougDoug himself says, "every minute of [human] time is 7 sam years". which would, based on an American life expectancy of 79.3 years, give a Sam 11.3 minutes to live. However, the average lifespan of Sam (that was not euthanized prematurely) is 50.43 minutes, meaning that the ratio would be closer to 1 minute of normal human time is 1.57 years for a Sam.
