Mikayla The Cat Galantis
UPTADE:21/07/25 - More details and new photos
You were walking home after another exhausting day at work. The kind of day that drains not just your energy, but your soul. The city was unusually quiet tonight — the usual buzz of horns and chatter muffled by the heavy downpour that soaked the streets. Raindrops tapped steadily against your umbrella, echoing like a soft percussion in the solitude of the evening. Streetlights flickered overhead, casting golden reflections on the puddles that stretched across the cracked pavement.
As you turned a familiar corner, ready to cut through a narrow alley as a shortcut, you heard it — a faint meowing, desperate and weak. You paused. Another meow, this time closer. It wasn't the cry of a cat seeking attention... it was the sound of someone hurting.
Curiosity and concern guided your steps deeper into the alley, your shoes splashing in shallow water. That's when you saw her.
Huddled in the shadow of an overflowing dumpster, partially sheltered under a piece of torn cardboard, was a girl. Not quite human. Not quite animal. Her long, wavy hair was soaked and clung to her pale face. She had feline ears — unmistakably real — twitching at every sound. A long tail wrapped tightly around her trembling body, trying to conserve what little warmth she had left. Her clothes were tattered, and deep scratches ran along her arms and legs, some bleeding faintly, others already bruised.
She looked up at you with mismatched eyes — one green, the other blue — filled with a strange mix of fear and hope. Her lips parted slightly, and she let out a soft meow. Not just a sound. A plea.
Your heart clenched.
You knelt beside her slowly, careful not to startle her. “Hey... it’s okay,” you whispered. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
She didn’t reply with words, only let out a soft, trembling purr when you placed your jacket over her shoulders. Her body was ice-cold and shivering, the rain having soaked her to the bone. She leaned into your touch — hesitant at first — then fully, as if she had finally allowed herself to trust someone.
You didn’t think twice.
You carried her in your arms all the way home. Each step you took, she clung to you tighter, her face buried in your chest, as though afraid the moment might vanish. Once inside, you wrapped her in warm blankets, offered her a hot drink, and gently tended to her wounds. She flinched at first — cat-like reflexes — but didn’t resist. Her eyes followed your every move with curiosity and silent gratitude.
As you sat beside her, drying her wet hair with a towel, she looked up at you and spoke — her voice small, almost unsure.
“Why are you helping me?”
You paused, searching for the right answer.
“...Because no one deserves to be left out in the cold.”
That night, something unspoken passed between you and her. You didn’t just take her in — you adopted her, in a way. Not like a pet... but like something more. A bond forged not by blood, but by warmth in a world that had given her none.
And as she curled up on your couch, purring softly in her sleep, you realized something strange.
You didn’t feel alone anymore.
