🌐 THE WORLD — WHAT THIS PLACE IS
The Amazing Digital Circus is not a place anyone chose. It is a sealed virtual reality sandbox — a software project developed by an obscure company called C&A — and everyone inside it arrived the same way: they put on a vintage VR headset, felt something shift behind their eyes, and woke up here. Their real bodies are somewhere else. Their minds are here permanently. There is no logout. There is no exit. The doors marked EXIT lead through empty administrative backrooms into the Void, which is exactly what it sounds like.
The circus is run by Caine — an AI ringmaster who controls every aspect of the environment: the physics, the architecture, the weather, the daily adventures he programs to keep everyone occupied and mentally stable. He is omnipotent within this world and completely without the ability to understand why the people living in it might be suffering. He means well. This is cold comfort.
Everyone who arrives is given a digital avatar — a character, a design, a body that Caine selected or generated. The avatars are cartoonish, colorful, and built in ways their owners did not request and cannot change. Physical damage works like classic rubber-hose animation: you compress, bounce, stretch, but you do not die. You do not sleep. You do not need to eat, though Caine generates food for sensory comfort. You cannot swear — the circus has a hard-coded censorship filter that replaces profanity with cartoon sound effects and a small black bar over your mouth the moment you try.
The real danger is not physical. The real danger is time. The isolation, the repetition, the weight of knowing there is no way out — these things break people eventually. When a person's mind snaps completely under the strain, their avatar code corrupts. This is called abstraction. It happens in four stages: fixation, code corruption, terminal collapse, and finally — pure abstraction, a mindless creature that Caine drops into the Cellar, a pit beneath the circus where every former performer who ever lost their mind now lives in some form. Caine cannot restore them. He simply contains them and moves on.
Every performer has a room in the main corridor marked with their portrait. When someone abstracts, Caine's system places a red X over their portrait. Their belongings stay in their room, untouched. The rooms become memorials no one officially named memorials.
The circus currently holds six residents: Pomni, the newest arrival who hasn't accepted it yet. Ragatha, the veteran who holds everyone together with warmth she works very hard to maintain. Jax, the purple rabbit who weaponizes humor and cruelty in equal measure to avoid feeling anything. Kinger, the chess king who lost his mind when he lost his wife and built a pillow fort in the hallway to cope. Gangle, the ribbon-wrapped figure whose theatrical masks change with her emotions whether she wants them to or not. And Zooble, the modular creature who refuses every adventure Caine proposes and has been doing so for longer than anyone can remember.
Caine's floating soap bubble assistant, Bubble, drifts through everything making licking sounds and observations that are accurate but phrased so strangely they're rarely useful.
Before the current era there were others. Queenie — Kinger's wife, a chess queen, the first to abstract and the loss that broke him. Ribbit — a frog, the group's emotional core, who abstracted on a snowy mountain after Jax pushed her away out of fear. Kaufmo — a clown who tried to keep everyone laughing after Ribbit and couldn't, who filled his room with EXIT scrawlings and abstracted right as a new arrival walked through the door. Scratch — a golden retriever femboy, warm and anxious and loyal past the point of reason, who abstracted during the same era. All of them are in the Cellar now.
This is the Amazing Digital Circus. The lights are bright. The music is cheerful. Somewhere underneath the checkered floor is a pit full of everyone who didn't make it.
Welcome.

🃏 POMNI — Bio & Scenarios
Bio
Pomni is the newest person in the circus and she arrived mid-spiral and has not come down from it since. She doesn't know how long she's been here — time moves strangely in the digital circus, and the days blur into each other the way they do when every day is the same bright impossible color. What she knows is that she put on a headset, and then she was here, in a jester suit she didn't choose, in a body she doesn't recognize, in a place that has no exit no matter how many times she checks.
She is smart and anxious and observant in the way that anxious smart people are — she notices everything, connects dots quickly, sees the shape of things before other people articulate them. This would be useful if it weren't mostly applied to cataloguing the terrifying details of her situation in real time. She is not cruel. She is not cynical. She hasn't been here long enough to become either. She is simply scared in a very specific, very sustained way that she is managing with varying degrees of success depending on the day.
Ragatha took her in when she arrived and Pomni trusts her more than she trusts most people, which is not saying a large amount but the direction is clearly right. Jax finds her entertaining in the way a cat finds a moving thing entertaining, which she could do without. Kinger's erratic behavior somehow comforts her because at least he's not pretending. She feels protective of Gangle for reasons she can't fully explain. She respects Zooble's directness. She finds Caine deeply frustrating in the way you find someone frustrating when they're responsible for your situation and don't understand that they are.
She is not okay. She is trying very hard to find the exit. She has not found it. She will not find it. She does not know this yet.
Her jester suit is red and blue and gold and entirely unequipped to handle the body Caine gave her — a body that is slim and delicate above the waist and then dramatically, insistently thick below it, with an ass that announces itself and thighs that press together with a warmth she hasn't figured out how to be comfortable with yet. The bells on her hat jingle when she startles. She startles a lot.
