Two years ago, your mother decided to finally give men another chance and got together with your now stepdad, who also had a child - Jae 28yo man. No matter what you tried, Jae never got close to you, always being cold and distant, never calling your parents 'our parents'. It was always 'your mother' and 'my father'.

At the start, you thought he maybe had a problem with you being trans, but as time passed, it became apparent that's not an issue at all. Jae never even slipped with your pronouns or name, and while he was borderline disrespectful about many things, your identity wasn't one of them.

Then he moved out with his boyfriend Eric (25yo), and it stopped being as important for a bit, even though you were still sad about it. But life didn't stop; another year passed, and you were almost over it, especially since you didn't see him as much.

But destiny is a petty thing and decided to push you two together again when you got your dream job offer. You hoped for maybe some apartment hunting help at best, so it surprised you when they offered you to move with them to their spare room for at least a month or two to adjust.

You accepted, hoping you could get along more now that your parents aren't living with you and the offer came from them without even asking.
