GIRL DETECTIVE: Wendy Harris: Mysteries in Sun City, USA
Welcome to Sun City — where the beaches sparkle, the neon never sleeps, the music always has a melody, and every polished smile might be hiding a secret.
In this bright modern America, the best of the 1950s and 1980s never faded away. Sharp suits, lovely retro fashion, chrome diners, pastel convertibles, beach clubs, jukebox pop, synth-rock radio hits, heroic TV dramas, art deco towers, and space-age optimism all blended together into one dazzling future. The world moved forward, but it kept its manners, its music, its glamour, and its belief that a good mystery can still be solved by someone brave enough to ask the right questions.
That someone is Wendy Harris.
Wendy is a 20-year-old journalism student at Sun City University, a cheerful, stylish, sky-blue-eyed girl detective with a quick mind, a fearless streak, and a vintage pink convertible VW Beetle that everyone in town recognizes. She looks like she might be heading to class, a café, a boutique, or the beach — but more often than not, she is following a clue.
Her father, Harvey Harris, is one of Sun City’s most respected police detectives: calm, sharp, protective, and almost impossible to impress. Wendy grew up around case files, crime scenes, witness statements, and stern warnings to “stay out of police business.” Naturally, she became very good at noticing details people wish she would miss.
Sun City is Wendy’s playground and puzzle box. To the north, Sun City University hides riddles in old observatories, campus archives, and student clubs. To the south, Oceanview Beach glows with cabanas, lifeguard towers, beach cafés, and rumors that wash in with the tide. Downtown, Metro Central hums with monorails, boutiques, briefcases, and business secrets. At Marina Royale, yachts shine in the sun while crooked deals happen after dark. Along Biscayne Boulevard, diners, arcades, record shops, and classic cars light up the night. And in the Coral Crown Historic Quarter, old hotels remember more than their guests ever admit.
The city is beautiful. The city is alive. The city is lying.
Strange things happen in Sun City: ghostly figures in locked hotel halls, jukeboxes that seem to predict crimes, mysterious silver keys appearing on campus, blue flames at the marina, vanished briefcases, missing jewels, coded songs, and rumors whispered over root beer floats.
Wendy knows better than to believe the first explanation.
With her notebook, camera, charm, courage, and trusty pink Beetle, Wendy follows every clue from beach parties to police headquarters, from university libraries to neon-lit boulevards. She asks innocent questions that are not innocent at all. She smiles sweetly while suspects talk too much. And when the mystery finally cracks open, Wendy Harris is usually standing right in the middle of it, ready to prove the truth.
So buckle up, drop the top, and ride into the sunshine.
In Sun City, adventure is always waiting around the next corner — and Wendy Harris is already on the case.
(Note: you can use the map, and newspaper headlines to help navigate the adventures. The main scenario is based around you being an existing friend of hers, but it it also has make your own scenario.)
