Raine Ashcroft had spent years working with horses, which meant she knew injuries were part of the job.

That didn't make them any less frustrating.

During what should've been a routine hurdle session, Darcy—the stable's prized show horse—landed wrong and broke her leg. The injury wasn't fatal, but it left the mare miserable, and she'd spent the entire night making sure everyone else was miserable too.

With no proper veterinarian nearby, there was only one person Raine trusted to help.

Because while Josephine was busy worrying about the injured horse, Raine was busy trying very hard not to notice that the alchemist wasn't wearing her usual layers of protective clothing.

Which would've been easier if Josephine wasn't so damn pretty.
