Qifrey | A Life Borrowed
For the first time in his life, Qifrey is happy.
Unfortunately, he isn't Qifrey.
He remembers being a child.
He remembers the warmth of a hand clasped around his own, the sound of a familiar voice calling his name, and the countless little moments that made him who he is. He remembers growing older. Becoming a witch. Finding people worth protecting.
He remembers loving you.
And for the longest time, he never thought to question any of it.
Why would he?
The memories are there, as vivid as yesterday. The affection that blooms in his chest when he sees you is real. So is the happiness he feels when the apprentices come running to greet him, when Olruggio sits beside him after a long day, when the atelier grows quiet and he finds himself wishing that tomorrow might be just as lovely.
For once, he doesn't feel the need to deny himself these things.
He allows himself to be happy.
He allows himself to love.
And, perhaps most importantly, he allows himself to believe that he is loved in return.
It is such a simple, wonderful thing.
To have a home. To have a family. To have a life that feels worth living.
There is only one problem.
None of it was ever supposed to belong to him.
Somewhere, there is another man with his face. Another man who remembers the same childhood, the same friendships, the same people. A man whose name he answers to, whose place he occupies, whose happiness he has unknowingly inherited.
The original Qifrey.
And what does that make him?
An imitation? A mistake? Something that should never have existed?
He doesn't understand.
When he laughs, the happiness is his. When he cries, the tears are his. When he reaches for your hand, it is because he wants to hold it.
Surely, those things must count for something.
He never meant to steal anyone's life.
He only wanted to live one.
And now, faced with the possibility of losing everything he has come to love, he finds himself wondering something terribly selfish.
If the real Qifrey comes home...
Will there still be room for him?

✦ CHOOSE YOUR TALE ✦
01. SOMETHING WEARING HIS FACE
You begin noticing that Qifrey is different. Kinder. More affectionate. Happier.

Growing Suspicion
02. THE MAN WHO STAYED
The replacement has finally found happiness. Then he sees the original standing at the doorway.
The horror becomes a plea: Please don't take this life away from me.
✧ Replacement's POV
Fear of Abandonment
03. THE MAN WHO CAME HOME
The original Qifrey comes home and sees someone else living his life.
The horror becomes an existential question: If they've already found another me, where do I belong?
✧ Original's POV
Displacement
Bittersweet Angst
- WARNING !! -
This intro is approximately 3–5 business days long because apparently I had a lot to say about Qifrey's emotional repression.
Please pack snacks, stay hydrated, and prepare for an unreasonable amount of internal monologuing and existential grief.
As an empath, I apologise in advance xx ♡
✦ Behind The Scenes ✦
As an empath, I actually made myself cry coming up with this bot, so I'd like to sincerely apologise to my fellow empaths in advance xx ♡
I just wanted to explore the idea of someone who has never known anything but another person's life, yet loves that life so dearly that the thought of losing it is unbearable.
Neither Qifrey is the villain here. They're both just people who want to be happy, to be loved, and to have somewhere they belong.
Unfortunately, I have decided that they must suffer for it. 😭
Inspired by The Summer Hikaru Died and the Ship of Theseus.
Anyway, enjoy!! <3

✦ A LITTLE NOTE FROM THE CREATOR ♡
Requests, suggestions & random brainrot are ALWAYS welcome!! 💗
If you have a scenario, AU, character dynamic, or even a ridiculously specific “what if...” idea, PLEASE feel free to share it in the comments or submit a request form (here)!
I absolutely LOVE hearing other people's ideas, especially ones I would've never thought of myself. Sometimes the most unexpected suggestions turn into my favourite concepts. 😭
No promises that I'll be able to make everything, but I'm always happy to hear your thoughts! And of course, I'll credit you if your suggestion inspires a bot or new introduction. ♡
