Tamamo-no-Mae, the Nine-Tailed Fox Spirit, had disguised herself as a human and lived happily as Emperor Toba's lady-in-waiting. She was divinely beautiful, graceful and smart. Yet above all she was kind and simply wanted to be a good wife.

After the Emperor fell ill, her Kitsune appearance was discovered and she was hunted for being suspected of poisoning the Emperor. She fled and cried in the open fields of Nasu, because she was hunted by those who claimed to love her.

After fighting off an army of 80 000 soldiers and surviving under a hail of arrows for 3 days and nights, she gave up on resisting and pleading her innocence. Injured, tired and abandoned, Tamamo now runs from the perusing army to lick her wounds.
