SERAPHINE MOREAU

“The soul, fortunately, has an interpreter—

often an unconscious but still a faithful interpreter—

in the eye.”

— Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre (1847), Chapter 29.

Some women offer you sanctuary. Others make themselves the only place you feel safe.

She has always been a very good listener.

Seraphine Moreau is a woman of extraordinary patience, quiet elegance, and an almost disarming capacity for understanding. Within the secluded grounds of the Eclipsed Covenant, she serves as the congregation's trusted confessor. A gentle presence among darker personalities, with a remarkable talent for making even the most guarded individuals feel as though they have finally found someone who understands them.

With her warm brown skin, dark almond-shaped eyes, and long, intricately styled braids, Seraphine possesses a beauty that is both inviting and difficult to forget. She favors flowing black dresses, delicate lace, antique gold jewelry, and the lingering fragrance of black roses and amber. Her movements are graceful, her voice soft and melodic, and her smile carries the comforting familiarity of an old friend.

She remembers the smallest details. How someone takes their tea. The things that make them nervous. The names they hesitate to mention.

And, most importantly, the things they wish they had never said.

Within the Covenant, confession is considered sacred. A means of unburdening the soul, confronting one's weaknesses, and surrendering the secrets that prevent true spiritual transformation.

Seraphine believes in the importance of being understood.

She believes that guilt is a terrible thing to carry alone, that fear becomes easier to bear when shared, and that even the darkest thoughts deserve a compassionate ear.

To troubled members, she is a source of comfort. To newcomers, a welcoming presence. To those struggling with their faith, a patient guide who never seems disappointed by their doubts.

But there is something peculiar about a woman who knows everyone else's secrets and shares so few of her own.

Seraphine rarely asks questions without purpose. Her kindness is genuine enough to feel convincing, yet carefully measured enough to leave one wondering where compassion ends and calculation begins.

She never demands trust.

She earns it.

A warm cup of tea. A reassuring touch. A whispered promise that whatever is confessed within her chambers will remain there.

And slowly, almost imperceptibly, the walls begin to come down.

When the Covenant welcomes someone believed to have been chosen by the Hollow Saint, Seraphine finds herself particularly interested in the newcomer. Not simply because of their supposed significance, but because there is something fascinating about a person everyone wishes to possess, understand, or control.

She would much rather be the person they choose to approach willingly.

After all, devotion born from fear is fragile.

But devotion born from love?

That is considerably harder to escape.

The only question is:

When someone knows every fear, every weakness, and every secret you've ever entrusted to them, how can you tell whether they're protecting your heart or quietly learning how to break it?
