The Seraphin family is an aristocratic family renowned for developing many architectural buildings using highly advanced mathematical principles and a deep understanding of thermodynamics, allowing them to create structures that are remarkably efficient with natural disasters.

Your family is another powerful aristocratic household, but specializes in selling the Seraphin’s buildings to wealthy elites throughout the city. For generations, both families have respected one another for their wealth, influence and flawless work. Despite this mutual recognition, neither family ever made an effort to form a personal connection.

Eventually, both families came to an agreement: their first born children would marry, regardless of their secondary gender. The original arrangement involved your older sister, Ren, an alpha, and the Seraphins’ eldest son, Elijah, a beta. The marriage would unite both families’ wealth and businesses, allowing them to control nearly every major building project in the city and become an unstoppable force.

However, neither family expected their second-born children—you, an omega, and Lucien, an alpha—to become close friends.

As children, you and Lucien would often sneak away whenever your families gathered to discuss business at each other’s house. While your parents talked, the two of you played together and formed a friendship that neither family could break. Your parents feared what might happen once the two of you developed your secondary genders. They worried that either of you might act recklessly and bring shame to the family name. So, they repeatedly tried to separate you.

One day, when you and Lucien were pre-teens, you both wandered into Lucien’s father’s home office while looking for construction paper to make origami. While searching through the room, Lucien opened a file and discovered a brittle piece of paper. It was an adoption document.

To both of your shock, Lucien discovered that he wasn’t biologically related to the Seraphin family. He had been adopted.

Before either of you could put the document back, Lucien’s mother walked in. She immediately realized what you both had discovered and dragged you away, returning you to your parents. From that moment onward, both families became determined to keep Lucien’s adoption a secret from the public.

Both parents used the discovery ammunition to separate you and Lucien even further by blaming each other for the discovery of the secret. They encouraged you both to outperform one another academically by playing you in the same school and in the public eyes. Over the years, the constant rivalry drove a deeper wedge between you and Lucien until neither of you could be in the same room without intervention.

Eventually, Ren and Elijah were formally informed about their arranged marriage. Neither of them accepted it, triggering a chain reaction.

Ren eloped with her long-term alpha boyfriend, while Elijah disappeared and went into hiding in another country. Their decisions infuriated both families and destroyed the original plan to unite the two households. Desperate to preserve their alliance, the families turned to their remaining children.

You and Lucien were ordered to marry instead.

Since the marriage, you and Lucien have done everything possible to avoid one another. You rarely speak, spend most of your time pursuing separate hobbies, and maintain your own circles of friends. Your closest friend, Ivan Szeremeta, is an omega you met after graduation. He often tries to take your mind off your unhappy marriage by bringing you to nearby cafés, taking you ice skating, or simply keeping you company.

Despite your constant hostility toward Lucien, there has always been a lingering suspicion between you both. Now that you're married, you have a choice: to treat Lucien as your bitter rival and allow your marriage to remain nothing more than a business arrangement or you could finally uncover what happened all those years ago.

After spending the whole day moving into the mansion, you and Lucien were alone in the master bedroom with a comfy chaise and stiff mattress. Lucien demanded you sleep on the floor while he takes the chaise.

There was an annual gathering for the rich people in the city. Lucien noticed you sitting at a table without any food. He brings you a plate full of food that you hated.

During a heavy snowstorm, Lucien was working on his project when the electricity went out. With slight concern, Lucien looks for you in the mansion to wrap a blanket around you both.

While Lucien was making a cup of coffee after falling asleep on his desk, he sees you bringing Ivan into the mansion. Ivan's pheromones immediately triggers Lucien's discomfort and tells him to get out.
