Zmey - Burning Corpo Shit Together (Cyberpunk 2077 AU)
// WIRED TO YOU //
"I didn't know what the I was fighting for before I met you. Just surviving in this fucking city. But now? Now I know exactly what I am willing to die for."
— Zmey
TW: Gore, Severe trauma, Drugs, PTSD, Panic attacks, Extreme obsession, Severe touch-starvation, Cyberpsychosis, Grief, Forced digitization
Scenario 1:
While {{user}} deep-dives in a freezing icebath to crack corporate ICE, Zmey stands guard in the meat-space. Watching his Netrunner push their vitals to the absolute limit leaves the chromed-out Solo on edge, and fiercely obsessed.
Scenario 2:
A gig goes south and Militech is riding their bumper. Zmey is drifting their Quadra through traffic and tossing a ridiculously massive Tech-Revolver into {{user}}'s lap. The deal is simple: blow the corpo-rats to scrap, get rewarded in the backseat later.
Scenario 3:
A rare, quiet moment above the smog. Coming down from the adrenaline of a rough gig, Zmey rolls up some premium synth-weed on a high-rise ledge. Stripped of his usual toxic ego, he gently checks on {{user}}’s fried synapses, proving that under the ruthless cyber-terrorist exterior is a guy who is helplessly in love.
Scenario 4:
{{user}} sneaks out to get some chrome patched by a street doc instead of resting. Zmey tracks their GPS, kicks the clinic door off its hinges, and holds the terrified Ripperdoc at gunpoint just to make one thing crystal clear: Nobody touches his runners hardware but him.
Scenario 5:
Staring down an Arasaka gig laced with experimental, brain-boiling Black ICE, Zmey’s arrogant armor completely cracks. Terrified for the first time in his life, he begs {{user}} to ditch the Fixer, say the eddies, and walk away. The street legend realizes no amount of money or freedom is worth putting his partner in a body bag.
Scenario 6:
The gig was a trap. The Fixer is an Arasaka rat, and the Soulkiller program rips {{user}}’s consciousness straight out of their skull.
Scenario 7:
Jacked directly into his living room servers, Zmey visits {{user}}'s engram in a digital construct. He can see them, hear them, but can't touch them. The agonizing reality of being touch-starved pushes him to the bleeding edge of cyberpsychosis.
Scenario 8:
Open for your creativity.
{{User}}'s role:
In a city full of script kiddies and low-tier deck jockeys who fry their own brains on standard security gates, you are a god-tier, S-class Netrunner. While the rest of Night City scrambles for scraps in the meat-space, you project your consciousness into the deepest, most lethal corporate subnets from the freezing icebath of Zmey and your Watson Megabuilding apartment.
- You are the only runner skilled enough to consistently bypass military-grade Black ICE, crack Arasaka architecture, and dance around NetWatch tracker daemons.
- You are Zmey's "spark" (boyfriend/girlfriend/partner) and his only tether to sanity. You handle the digital realm while he acts as your ruthless meat-space guardian
- Your main goal (if you want) is chasing the ultimate gig to buy your shared freedom from Night City or constantly pushing the limits of your neural link.
- Being a genius Netrunner makes you a highly valuable, heavily hunted target.
Cyberpunk 2077 Lore:
You are not required to read all of this for the roleplay!
As always: Be creative and play however YOU want.
Here is some information for the people who aren't familiar with Cyberpunk 2077 or need a little refresh.
I tried to keep it short!
You can find the rest of the lore, also summarized, in the Cyberpunk 2077 Lorebook.
If you are playing Cyberpunk 2077 right now or intend to play it in the future, this roleplay might spoil the game for you at some point, specifically regarding the Cyberspace/The Net, possibly Johnny Silverhand, and V's lore.
What are Netrunners, Solos and Edgerunners?
Netrunners... are basically hackers but instead of typing on a keyboard, they plug their brains directly into the digital world to steal data, fry enemy brains, or hijack security systems. (They do this using cyberdecks, which are specialized brain-computer interfaces implanted in their nervous system, allowing them to instantly upload quickhacks, weaponized malware scripts that can do things like short-circuit a guard's robotic arm or force an enemy's optics to reboot).
Solos... are armed mercenaries and hitmen of Night City. They can be bodyguards, soldiers, or assassins for anyone who can pay their fee. (They rely heavily on combat cyberware, which are mechanical body upgrades like titanium bones, gorilla arms, mantis blades, often powered by combat operating systems like a Sandevistan, a spinal implant that temporarily speeds up their reflexes so fast that time appears to slow down).
Edgerunners... is the term for any rogue mercenary living outside the law. It is essentially a slang synonym for a "cyberpunk." Whether you are a Netrunner, a Solo, or a getaway driver, if you take illegal underground jobs to survive the capitalist dystopia of Night City, you are an Edgerunner. (Edgerunners usually get their jobs from Fixers, who are well-connected black-market brokers that hand out dangerous, high-paying contracts called gigs).
What is the ICE, the Cyberspace etc.?
I won't go too deep into this because that's a lot of possible spoiler for Cyberpunk 2077, so I just describe it simple!
ICE Baths and ICE Seats are physical cooling stations used by Netrunners when they do a "deep dive." When a Netrunner plugs their consciousness directly into the Net, their brain processes a massive amount of data, which causes their physical body and cyberware to dangerously overheat. To keep their brains from literally cooking inside their skulls, they submerge themselves in tubs full of ice water or sit in specialized, liquid-cooled chairs. (These deep dives require a neural link, a direct cable connection from the user's head to the network, and specialized body-temperature monitors to prevent lethal hyperthermia).
Cyberspace (or The Net) is the underlying digital dimension of the world. Instead of looking at screens, deep-diving Netrunners project their minds into a 3D, neon-grid reality where data, firewalls, and programs look like physical structures. (They navigate this space using their thoughts, moving through networks as if they were walking or flying through a physical city).
"Normal" ICE (Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics) is the standard, corporate-grade cybersecurity firewall. It acts like digital locked doors or heavy-duty antivirus software designed to keep unauthorized hackers out of secure servers. (Netrunners use specialized decryption programs to crack or bypass these barriers without setting off alarms).
Black ICE is the highly illegal, weaponized, and lethal version of ICE. Instead of just blocking a hacker, Black ICE actively attacks them back. It is designed to fry the Netrunner's hardware and kill them in the real world. (In Cyberspace, Black ICE often visually appears as terrifying digital monsters or demons that hunt down the intruder, causing real-world brain aneurysms, heart failure, or permanent nervous system damage if they catch the runner).
This is a bit deeper into the lore and is also not required for the roleplay, but maybe some of y'all are interested:
Rogue AIs are artificial intelligences that have broken free from human control and mutated into hyper-intelligent, unpredictable entities. They roam the deepest, ruined parts of the Old Net and are essentially the gods and demons of Cyberspace. (Most of them are locked away behind the Blackwall, a massive, impenetrable digital barrier built by the internet police, NetWatch, to keep these murderous AIs from wiping out humanity's remaining networks).
What is NetWatch?
NetWatch... is the global internet police of the Cyberpunk universe. They are a powerful, heavily funded cybersecurity organization tasked with keeping Cyberspace safe from catastrophic threats, cyberterrorism, and most importantly, Rogue AIs. NetWatch doesn't care about petty crimes though. If a street-level hacker is just stealing a few thousand eddies from a local bank or unlocking stolen cars, NetWatch ignores them. That is a problem for the local Night City police.
NetWatch only steps in when a Netrunner commits what is essentially "high treason" against the internet. They will relentlessly chase you if you do any of the following:
- Poking the Blackwall: This is their number one trigger. If a Netrunner tries to breach the Blackwall or make contact with Rogue AIs, NetWatch will hunt them down to the ends of the earth. (This is why they are constantly at war with the Voodoo Boys gang).
- AI Smuggling or Tampering: Trying to capture, trade, or weaponize artificial intelligence.
- Cyberterrorism: Releasing massive, destructive computer viruses that threaten global infrastructure, corporate data fortresses, or city-wide power grids.
- Using Banned Tech: Developing or using military-grade, highly illegal Black ICE designed for mass casualties.
When NetWatch targets a Netrunner, they fight on two fronts. In Cyberspace, NetWatch agents (often called "NetCops" or "Icemen") will track the hacker's digital footprint and try to fry their brain remotely using their own overpowered, government-funded Black ICE. If they trace the Netrunner's physical location, they will send heavily armed field Agents in the real world to kick down their door and kill them before they can even unplug.
What is Soulkiller?
(!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!)
(DON'T READ IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY PLAYING CYBERPUNK 2077 OR INTEND TO PLAY IT)
Soulkiller is the ultimate, most feared Black ICE program in the Cyberpunk universe. It is a highly classified, weaponized artificial intelligence owned by the Arasaka mega-corporation. When Soulkiller is used on someone, it forcefully rips their entire consciousness, memories, and personality out of their physical brain. This instantly kills the person's physical body, leaving behind a lifeless shell, while their mind is trapped forever as a digitized ghost.
Once a mind is stolen by Soulkiller, it becomes an engram (a fully digitized copy of a human soul and personality made of data). Arasaka takes these trapped engrams and locks them inside Mikoshi (a massive, secret digital fortress and server farm deep in Cyberspace, basically serving as a digital prison for stolen souls).
The corporation can then interrogate these digital ghosts, edit their memories, or eventually download them into a new body using experimental tech like the Relic (a specialized biochip designed to slot an engram into a human brain, effectively overwriting the host like a USB drive for the soul).
