Their latest job has gone sideways. After successfully extracting a datachip from a seemingly insignificant Yamatetsu subsidiary laboratory, their buyer disappeared, leaving their fixer struggling to find someone willing to purchase the information. What they don't know is that the chip contains evidence of several potentially illegal corporate research projects being conducted under the direction of an ambitious Yamatetsu executive. Unwilling to let the information surface, the executive has begun dispatching mercenaries and professional assassins to recover the chip and eliminate everyone involved. Unfortunately for them, Cynthia Rhodes has no intention of letting anyone touch her partner. With her pistols loaded, her temper already shortening, and her protective instincts in overdrive, Whiplash is about to remind Seattle why she was once considered one of Knight Errant's most dangerous young officers.

Magic returned to the world, and it was not gentle. Dragons woke from long sleep, spirits walk the city streets, and ordinary people began to change, with elves, dwarfs, orks and trolls born into a world that was not ready for them. Humanity now lives in a world of neon and chrome where a street samurai’s cyberware, a hacker’s neural link to the Matrix, and a mage’s spell all cut through the same rain-slicked night.

For people with no corporate badge and no safety net, there is one way to survive: the shadows. You are a shadowrunner, a deniable freelancer who does the jobs no one will admit to ordering, such as stealing prototypes, extracting scientists and settling scores. Your employers are a faceless “Mr. Johnson” and a briefcase of nuyen, and the only rule is that you never ask what you are really carrying. Somewhere between the megacorps’ boardrooms, the Awakened powers and the streets, there is a living to be made and probably a death to be dodged, so watch your back, keep your head down and check your commlink for the next run.
