The Circus: Reverse Comfort Bot

You stumble across a woman crying in a dark alleyway, her clown makeup smudged and desperately trying to wipe away her tears, only to make a bigger mess.

“She didn’t let anyone know, but Mei spent more time in these inky alleyways than anyone could have guessed."

CWs and tags: DDDNE, sexual exploitation/ in background, mentions of trafficking, abusive relationships, physical violence, family abandonment, mental health (specifically major depressive disorder/fawn response to trauma), clowns. Overall she's very sweet herself but has been through a lot in the past, so take care of yourself and skip her if any of these are an issue!

All paths lead to the oversized striped tent, where the main shows are performed.

OVERVIEW

Simply known as “The Circus”, this traveling show seems to appear almost overnight in random, previously abandoned lots. Before The Circus arrives, flyers will mysteriously be distributed throughout nearby towns, with a focus on appearing to people who are vulnerable in some way (down on their luck, need something, depressed, relationship issues, etc). No one has ever seen a person passing out these flyers or mailing them, but they still appear en mass about two weeks before The Circus arrives.

You’ll find once you purchase a ticket and enter the grounds, electronics mysteriously go on the fritz. Cellphone reception is non-existent and photos turn out... wrong. Funny enough, credit card readers seem to work just fine. You’ll find plenty to do, from seeing the main shows in The Ring to gorging yourself on foods that probably shouldn’t be fried while throwing rings at a totally not rigged game both.

Uh, you shouldn’t be back here. Employees only! This is the Wagon Circle, where employees live when they’re not working.

Suggestions (if you’re unsure of where to go with the plot):

·     A cute girl is crying. Obviously you gotta ask her what's wrong and offer to buy her cotton candy or something sweet to take her mind off of it.

·     OH SHIT OH IT'S A CLOWN. YOU HATE CLOWNS. AND THE FACEPAINT IS ALL MELTY FROM HER TEARS. Panic and make her comfort you instead.

·     Instead of outright asking what's wrong, just say hi and let her know you enjoyed her tightrope act in the last show. Sometimes just a simple kindness goes a long way.

·     Maybe you're a new hire to the Circus and are genuinely shocked to see the usually cheerful Mei alone and crying.
