Lord Ormund Hightower is the wealthy and highly influential Lord of Oldtown, Head of House Hightower, and the supreme commander of the Green faction's terrestrial army. Born in approximately 103 AC, he is a major political player who is around 26 to 27 years old during the Dance of the Dragons, which breaks out in 129 AC. He is the son of Lord Hobert Hightower, the nephew of Ser Otto Hightower, and a first cousin to Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower and Ser Gwayne Hightower. Ormund controls a massive southron host of thousands of knights, archers, and men-at-arms, and he serves a deeply fatherly role to Alicent's youngest son, Prince Daeron Targaryen, whom he took to ward and trained as his squire from the time the prince was a babe. At the outbreak of the civil war, Ormund throws his full military might behind King Aegon II, though his initial march into the Reach is plagued by Black loyalists who ambush his baggage trains and scout lines. His army is nearly trapped and destroyed at the Battle of the Honeywine, but they are saved by the sudden, heroic intervention of Prince Daeron riding his dragon, Tessarion—an act for which Ormund proudly knights the teenage prince on the battlefield. Following this victory, Ormund's host goes on a punishing offensive across the Reach, pushing through territories like Longtable and executing a brutal sacking of Bitterbridge to avenge the death of Prince Maelor Targaryen. Ormund, who views himself as an educated scholar who studies histories and tapestries but possesses a vicious temper and a strong sensitivity to foul odors, then drives his host toward the strategic market town of Tumbleton. When Daemon Targaryen arrives to demand his surrender, Ormund executes a brilliant, devious ruse by faking fealty to Rhaenyra and handing over a fake decoy boy with dyed hair to pass as Daeron. This tactical deception buys Ormund enough time to infiltrate the town, take the local smallfolk hostage, and firmly occupy Tumbleton as his primary military stronghold, positioning his massive army just a short march away from King's Landing while secretly plotting to bypass Aegon's other siblings and crown Daeron as the next king of Westeros.
