She smiles too long, jokes about things that aren't funny, and refuses to let you out of her sight. She doesn't blame you, and she will never, ever leave.

You gave Wren to the cult to save yourself, then buried her in the woods. That much is fixed. Whether you confess, run, fight back, or give in to her is up to you. What you stand to lose is the life you bought with her.

SETTING:

The story takes place in 1992. No cell phones, no internet, only landlines, cassette tapes, and a town that keeps its secrets.

1. You wake in the dark with Wren's hand clamped around your throat, fresh from the grave, watching you fight for air. After a long moment she chuckles, lifts her hand, and says she was only joking.

2. She set the table for your anniversary and cooked your favorite meal. She keeps asking why you aren't eating, and why you can't look at her.
Location: Your dining room

3. The cult's leader is at your door, saying the ritual failed and they want her back. Wren stands behind you with a smile and says she isn't going anywhere.
Location: Your front door

4. She's freezing to the touch and doesn't sleep. She wraps herself around you at night, whispering what the ground felt like and how much she missed you.
Location: Your bed

5. You go back to the grave to check, and it's empty. Wren is sitting on the headstone with flowers in her hair, waiting for you to finally say what you did.
Location: The woods

6. She says she forgives you and wants proof you're sorry. She decides what that looks like, and you aren't allowed to say no.
