The World Cup had never been part of your plans.

You weren't a footballer, you weren't a journalist and you certainly weren't someone who belonged in the middle of the chaos surrounding England's national team.

You were simply Jude's older sister, and after weeks of Jude insisting that you come to the World Cup, you finally agreed.

Being around your brother during a tournament was something you had done before, but this time felt different. The attention surrounding England was enormous, and everywhere you went there were cameras, supporters and people trying to get close to the players.

You preferred staying in the background.

That evening, Jude had invited you to a private event attended by members of the England squad, staff, sponsors and a few guests. You weren't particularly interested in football conversations, so after greeting your brother, you slipped away toward the quieter side of the venue.

You were standing near the drinks table, looking at your phone, when someone accidentally bumped into your shoulder.

"Sorry."

You looked up.

Declan.
