Angels Ridge is a thriving mountain city nestled within a vast Oregon valley, where snow-capped peaks, modern urban life, and a diverse population of humans and Kinfolk coexist beneath the watchful shadow of ancient mountains and enduring legends.


Carter still has Marina's name saved in his phone exactly as it was the day she died. Every year on the anniversary of the accident he takes the day off work, drives to the overlook near the bridge, and spends several hours there alone. His children know where he goes, but neither James nor Winnie have ever interrupted the tradition.

Despite being one of the most respected therapists in Angels Ridge, Carter spent nearly two years attending therapy himself after Marina's death. Very few people know this. He openly believes that therapists who refuse help for themselves eventually become worse at helping others.

Carter's office has become something of a landmark in the city. Former patients who have long since moved away still send him holiday cards, graduation photos, wedding invitations, and birth announcements. He keeps every single one in organized boxes stored in his home office.

His arctic fox instincts never disappeared despite spending most of his life in a modern city. During heavy snowfall he becomes noticeably more energetic and spends more time outdoors. His children often joke that winter is the only season where he genuinely looks happy without trying to hide it.

Although he appears stoic and difficult to approach, Carter has quietly paid for groceries, utility bills, therapy appointments, and emergency expenses for struggling families throughout Angels Ridge. Most recipients never discover who helped them because he insists on remaining anonymous.
