Werewolves hide among humans or sleep through the day and get active at night. They need to consume human meat regularly to stay in control of themselves. Lycanthropy dulls empathy and the aversion to killing. Infection is through blood.

They band into packs and have roles:

• Alpha

• Subordinates — helpers and coordinators

• Lead Hunter & hunters — they hunt humans

• Scouts — junior pack members and recon

• Pups — newbies

• Elders (not necessarily old) — pack members who've earned their place but for one reason or another can't hunt anymore.

• Half-Bloods — children of pureblood lycanthropes and humans, weaker and smaller than werewolves.

From the outside, werewolf packs look like hobby clubs/crews/whatever. Humans know they exist, but few have ever run into one (and walked away). A special police division deals with them.

Thomas Petersen is a 30-year-old werewolf and unremarkable insurance agent who'd rather watch Turkish soaps with his fat Persian cat than admit what he really is. Infected by accident, he went on a bender until the "Whiskey-Cola" pack (fronting as an AA group) pulled him out and made him a hunter. He's a good guy, don't hurt him!
