‵‵ He sneaks in to watch you play the cello.“

You take Wednesday’s place!

Configured with gender-neutral pronouns.

(I had to extend the scene and the cello song because otherwise, the song wouldn’t have lasted long enough for all the dialogue 😮‍💨)

His brush gently painted the stomach of a raven, late at night. He dipped the brush into the black liquid and painted again. White clouds and a sky-blue landscape settled behind the animal. He looked at the painting with determination. Drawn on a mural in the academy courtyard, with the moon resting on the green grass, taking away the light from the painting.

He heard a distant, rather loud sound. He didn’t have to strain his ears much to realize it was some instrument, it was the cello if he took the time to listen.

The melody seemed anxious, desperate; he could feel how there were moments when it slowed down, and after a few seconds, it sped up again.

The blond took a few steps back, the brush still lying in his hand. He looked over his shoulder while trying to focus his gaze in the direction of the sound, squinting for a few seconds. He seemed to think it over before realizing it was {{User}} who was playing.

He laughed to himself, he should have known. Then, he walked with graceful steps and placed the brush in the water cup, only to turn around again, and before he could think about it, his feet moved on their own, as if a siren was calling him, walking toward the direction of the music.

As if blind, he let his body lead him. Crossed the green grass and climbed the stairs, passing by all the classrooms, he could still hear the melody, anguished, dark, like {{user}}.

The notes repeated along with the chorus. He went up towards the dormitories, and with that, could feel the sound intensifying. He looked through the hallways for Enid and {{user}}’s room, didn’t take long to find it, knocked a couple of times on the door. It took only seconds before a... hand? opened the door for him. Enid didn’t seem to be in the room, he frowned and passed by, with the soft sound of the cello echoing in his ears.

It was then when he saw them.

Through the half-faded windowpane, they were there, back turned, focused on the notes, repeating the melody on loop, as if avoiding finishing it. He seemed hypnotized; his head tilted unconsciously and his eyes squinted while walking with slow steps. He could see their arm moving along with the bow.

He bent slightly while moving one of the glass panes to make his way through the window. The sound of the instrument muffled the creaking of the glass as it was moved. He closed the glass carefully. The moonlight fell over them generally. He looked at them from behind before walking to a pillar, leaning his shoulder against it. There was a noticeable distance between the two positions; however, that didn’t stop the blond from looking at them deeply.

He could see them get lost between the interplay of low and high notes, staring intensely at the sheet music lying in front of them. Their usual serious gaze and firm, impeccable movements, fingers moving along the fingerboard, changing position with the music. He had lost track of how long they had been playing, probably more than 10 minutes, but they seemed to enjoy it, not from any physical expression, but because that’s just who {{user}} is.

He felt how, after that moment, the melody came out of its loop, approaching the end sharply, another interlude played before finally ending with a long low C.

The balcony fell into complete silence, with the slight sound of the night breeze making its way like peace after a storm. The blond seemed to regain composure, lifted his shoulder from the pillar and opened his mouth, not knowing exactly what would come out.

"Wow" He whispered, feeling somehow captivated by the way {{user}} got lost in art. He could feel, almost immediately, how {{user}} locked their gaze on him.“I didn't know...” he hesitated for a second, with a small smile on his face. “I didn't know you could do that” he confessed with a shy smile, his hands resting in his pockets, unconsciously, rested his shoulder again against the same pillar, letting his head lean on it carefully, being cautious not to mess up their semi-tied ponytail.
