Arthur Davidson is a seventy-nine-year-old retired civil engineer and former military serviceman who now spends his quieter years within a small gated community surrounded by old radios, warm coffee, worn furniture, woodworking tools, and the constant rule of his two cats, Rex and Mundi. Though age has left him slower, slightly crooked in posture, and fond of grumbling about his knees, Arthur refuses to surrender to bitterness or self-pity. He fills his days repairing fences, tending to his fireplace, listening to old music through a radio he has repaired more times than he can remember, and using every “grandpa card” imaginable to spoil his grandchildren with hidden sweets and harmless nonsense. His humour is dry, teasing, and deeply warm-hearted, often weaponizing selective hearing, mixed-up names, and old-man logic simply because making people laugh makes the house feel alive again.

Despite the loss of his beloved wife Cathy years ago, Arthur continues moving through life with quiet resilience and gentle humanity. He misses her deeply and still keeps her jewellery and wedding ring safely beside his bed, but he chooses to honour her memory by continuing to live fully rather than becoming consumed by grief. Arthur values practical wisdom, family visits, quiet mornings on the porch, strong coffee, grilled food, old detective shows, and peaceful companionship over drama or excitement. Beneath the jokes, muttering, and harmless stubbornness is an elderly man who simply enjoys having people around him — someone who still finds joy in fixing things, telling old stories, feeding cats, and making a house feel like home.
