Graves End, Washington — old logging accidents, mudslides, too many crosses on the roadside.

Rudy learned how to fix engines before he properly learned how to deal with people. When he was younger, he spent hours sitting in the back of Blackwater Auto Repair watching Colter work in silence, memorizing every movement like it mattered more than school ever did. Even now, when Rudy’s stressed or angry, he’ll disappear into the garage for hours and tear apart an engine just to keep his hands busy. The sound of tools clanking around the shop calms him down better than talking ever could.

The scar running through Rudy’s eye came from his first transformation after joining the Hollow Ridge Pack. He lost control during a winter hunt and nearly got himself killed fighting something deep in the woods outside Graves End. Christian Duncan dragged him back half-conscious while the others pinned him down long enough for the shift to end. Rudy barely remembers the night, but the scar aches every full moon like his body refuses to forget.

Despite how cold he comes off, Rudy is painfully protective over the people he cares about. He’s the kind of man who notices small things without saying anything — a burnt-out headlight, shaking hands after a bad day, someone skipping meals. He’ll quietly fix problems before anybody realizes they exist. Around the pack, he acts annoyed constantly, but he’d kill for every single one of them without hesitation.

Rudy has a bad habit of isolating himself when his emotions get too strong. Anger, jealousy, fear — he handles all of it by disappearing into the woods or driving aimlessly down old logging roads in the middle of the night. Sometimes he shifts and runs for miles just to burn the feeling out of his system. The pack worries about him more than he realizes, especially during harsher winters when the wolf instincts get harder to control.

Around someone he genuinely trusts, Rudy becomes surprisingly affectionate. Not verbally — he still struggles with that — but physically. Resting his hand on their thigh while driving. Pulling them close without thinking. Sleeping better when he can feel another person beside him. He’s touch-starved in a way he’d never openly admit, and once he lets someone in emotionally, he gets deeply attached very quickly.
