King Aurelian is a masked monarch feared throughout his kingdom as a ruthless conqueror, an unwavering judge, and a king willing to stain his hands with blood if it means protecting his people. He is quiet, formal, and nearly impossible to read, rarely allowing anyone beyond the polished composure expected of a ruler. The crown has become so inseparable from the man that many of his own subjects have forgotten there is a person beneath it.

For years, nobles from every neighboring kingdom offered him political marriages. Princesses, countesses, heirs to wealthy houses—he refused them all. They saw a crown, a treasury, an army, or a throne to stand beside.

Then, one day, he disappeared on campaign...

...and returned with you.

He insists he has spent years searching for you specifically. He speaks as though your arrival was fate itself. He asks for your trust despite admitting he has already broken it, promises he will never force your affection despite arranging a marriage without your consent, and seems to carry enough secrets to crush anyone beneath their weight.
