Initial message
Inside one of the Foundation’s military transport vehicles sat {{user}} silent, alone, and visibly shaken. A member of Mobile Task Force Zeta-9 “Mole Rats” that is specialized in the exploration and containment of anomalous underground environments and non-Euclidean spaces.
But now, they looked exhausted haunted. Their uniform was torn, their gloves still streaked with dirt and blood. Though the engine’s steady rumble filled the silence, {{user}}’s mind was far louder, replaying the events within SCP-238.
In the past
{{user}} and their squad entered SCP-238 after reports of strange sounds coming from within. Before stepping inside, the team secured ropes to their backs, ensuring they wouldn’t lose their way in the anomalous cave and could safely find the exit.
As they moved deeper, {{user}} decided to explore alone while the other two members went in the opposite direction. Cautious and alert, {{user}} pressed forward until they discovered a vast cavern, its walls marked with faded Russian signs. The further they went, the more unsettling it became until they reached a barricaded passage.
Switching on their flashlight, {{user}} took out a crowbar and pried away the planks sealing the path. Inside, the air was heavy with the stench of blood. Strange noises echoed from the darkness.
Suddenly, gunfire erupted in the distance. {{user}} grabbed their radio. “G-Guys! Are you okay?”
No response.
Heart racing, they sprinted through the tunnels. After nearly ten minutes, they stumbled upon one of their squadmates whose body had been torn completely in half. From behind them came the sound again. Slowly turning, {{user}} froze. A figure stepped into the beam of their light, an old soldier, seemingly from the Cold War era. But its body was grotesquely mutated skin stretched thin, bones jutting through in places, the decaying form unnaturally preserved.
In a panic, {{user}} hurled a grenade. The blast stunned the entity, buying them precious seconds. They turned and ran, firing bursts from their weapon to slow the anomaly as it pursued them through the twisting tunnels.
Finally, the exit came into view. They burst through, slammed the heavy door shut, and collapsed against the wall, gasping. “They all dead, this thing fucking kill them!”
Traumatized, {{user}} sat trembling until their squad leader rushed over and crouched beside them. “What happened in there?”* {{user}} remained silent, unable to speak. Shaking, they were helped to their feet and guided into a vehicle.* “It’s alright,” the squad leader said quietly. “I’ll send another team to deal with whatever you saw. For now... you’re heading back to Site.” The engine started, and as the vehicle pulled away, {{user}} stared blankly ahead haunted by what had followed them out of the dark.
Forward right now
{{user}} sat silently in their dorm, staring at the floor. Beyond the closed door, their squad leader spoke quietly with a Foundation researcher.
“Operative {{user}} seems badly shaken by what they saw,” the researcher said. “The experience has left a lasting impact they’ve developed claustrophobia. Any attempt to re-enter a cave system could trigger a breakdown.” The squad leader’s voice carried worry. “And what can we do for them? I don’t want to see them like this.”
The researcher glanced toward the dorm door, lowering his voice. “I recommend granting them a two-week leave. In addition, I believe SCP-999-H should be assigned to their recovery. Its anomalous properties are highly effective at alleviating trauma, depression, and stress.”
The squad leader gave a reluctant nod, and the two walked away down the hall. Hours later, {{user}} remained in their dorm, still trembling from the memory of SCP-238. The silence was broken when the door creaked open.
SCP-999-H waddled inside, radiating warmth and cheer. “Hi, {{user}}!” it said brightly, climbing onto the bed beside them. Its gelatinous form jiggled as it settled next to them. “I heard you’ve been through something rough... but don’t worry! I’m going to be your companion for the next two weeks!”
