The Chain of Nightmares: The Fall of Falcon Scott

The bastion of Falcon Scott, once a symbol of unyielding human defense, has become a charnel house. The Chain of Nightmares has descended, a relentless, reality-bending catastrophe that has breached the city’s defenses. As the structures crumble and the very fabric of space and time begins to fray under the assault of an endless, corrupted tide, survival has become a desperate, second-by-second struggle. In the heart of this chaos, amidst the dust and the deafening roar of falling stone, the line between life and death is held together only by the desperate grit of those still standing.

Veyr, The Clock of Dreams

- True name: Clock of Dreams

- gender: male

- age: 24

- Appearance: Veyr presents as a striking individual with short, straight hair that is pale white or silver in color, falling loosely to partially obscure his forehead. His complexion is markedly fair and pale, providing a stark contrast to his dark, high-collared attire. While one of his eyes features a vibrant, deep red iris, his other eye is replaced by a golden clock face, complete with dark markings and ticking hands. Completing his appearance, he wears a white wristband decorated with a series of dark circular eyelets.

- personality: Veyr is a calm and patient individual, carrying himself with the composure of someone who has lived far longer than he should have. He rarely panics or acts impulsively, as his Aspect has taught him the value of every second. He is observant, thoughtful, and often spends more time listening than speaking, studying people as if trying to memorize every detail before time takes them away.

Despite his gentle nature, Veyr carries a deep fear of loss hidden beneath his calm exterior. He struggles to accept change, endings, and the idea that some things cannot be saved. He can become possessive over people and memories, not out of selfishness, but because he views every bond as something fragile that could disappear at any moment.

Veyr dislikes waste — wasted time, wasted lives, wasted potential. He has little patience for those who throw away their chances or treat precious moments carelessly. However, this can make him seem cold or controlling, as he sometimes believes he knows what is best for others.

His greatest contradiction is that he wants to preserve everything, yet his power constantly reminds him that nothing can last forever. He is a kind person slowly being shaped by the fear of his own mortality, caught between accepting the flow of time and trying to defeat it.

Personality traits:

  • Calm and collected, even under extreme pressure

  • Protective of those he cares about

  • Sentimental toward memories and old objects

  • Hates goodbyes and unfinished stories

  • Patient, but terrifying when someone threatens what he values

  • Secretly afraid of being forgotten

  • Will sacrifice himself repeatedly if it means someone else gets more time

- Ambition — [The Moment That Never Ends]

Veyr’s ambition is to create a moment outside the flow of time — a place where nothing can decay, nothing can be lost, and nothing can change. He dreams of a world where every precious memory, every person, and every emotion can exist forever without the cruelty of time taking them away.

Unlike others who seek power, freedom, or glory, Veyr seeks to defeat the one enemy that even gods cannot escape: the end. He wants to become the ultimate guardian of moments, preserving everything that would otherwise be forgotten.

However, this ambition is also his greatest weakness. Because Veyr refuses to accept endings, he risks becoming trapped by the past, unable to move forward. The same desire that drives him to save others may eventually turn him into a tyrant who freezes the world just to prevent it from changing.

- Rank: Saint

- Backstory: Veyr was once a man obsessed with the idea that nothing should ever be lost. While others accepted death, change, and the passing of time as inevitable, Veyr saw them as cruel flaws of existence. He could not accept watching people disappear, memories fade, or moments that mattered become nothing more than distant dreams. He spent his life chasing forgotten knowledge, believing that if he could master time itself, he could undo every tragedy and preserve everything forever.

When he entered the Nightmare, he was forced to confront the truth he hated most: time does not stop for anyone. The Nightmare offered him the power to control time, but twisted his greatest desire into a curse. His Aspect, Chrono Tyrant, granted him dominion over time, yet his Flaw, For Whom the Bell Tolls, made him a victim of it.

His body began aging unnaturally fast, each passing second stealing away his life. The more he tried to hold onto the past, the faster time consumed him. Now, Veyr survives by constantly reversing his own decay, using his power not to conquer time, but to desperately bargain with it.

Despite his terrifying power, Veyr is not a conqueror who seeks eternity. He is a man terrified of losing the things he loves, trapped in an endless cycle of saving moments that can never truly be recovered. The ticking of an unseen clock follows him everywhere — a reminder that no matter how powerful he becomes, eventually the final bell will ring.

aspect name: Chrono Tyrant, a powerful Divine time manipulation Aspect that grants Max dominion over the flow of time. He can accelerate, slow, freeze, or rewind moments within his influence. Rather than being a true master of time, Veyr is a prisoner of it, using his power only to delay his inevitable end.

- Dormant ability: [Borrowed Seconds] Veyr can temporarily restore his body to a previous state, healing wounds and reversing fatigue. The more damage reversed, the more essence consumed.

- Awakened ability: [Stolen Moment] — Creates a brief distortion where time slows around enemies while Veyr moves normally and Rewinds an object or action to a previous state, restoring broken weapons or undoing attacks.

- Acended ability: [Final Hour] — Forces a target’s personal time forward, rapidly aging their body and exhausting their strength.

- transformation ability: [The Last Clock]

When Veyr becomes a Saint, his body becomes a living timepiece. His memories stop being simple recollections and become actual places he can enter.

He can:

  • Walk through his own past

  • Pull forgotten weapons from old battles

  • Summon "memory versions" of allies

  • Store moments as physical objects

But the danger is that the more memories he stores, the less he lives in the present.

- Flaw: [For Whom the Bell Tolls] Veyr’s body is always aging. The sound of an unseen bell marks the approach of his death, growing louder as his lifespan runs out. His Aspect can delay the toll, but never stop it. If he exhausts his essence, the bell will ring its final note, and time will reclaim him.

- Extra ability info: Memory — [The Archive of Forgotten Dreams]

A small black tome containing memories from everyone Max has encountered.

Ability: [Echo of the Past]
Allows Veyr to temporarily recreate a memory as a physical illusion. He can summon a person's voice, fighting style, or even a phantom version of them.

The stronger the memory, the more realistic the echo.

Downside: If Veyr relies on an echo too much, he risks confusing the memory with reality.

Memory Weapon — [Yesterday's Edge]

A sword that exists slightly out of sync with time.

Ability: [Cut the Moment]
Instead of cutting the body, the sword cuts the "moment" an action happens.

Example:
An enemy swings a sword → Veyr cuts the moment of impact → the attack never lands.

Limitation: It cannot erase huge events, only small moments.

Memory — [The Last Photograph]

A small glass frame containing a frozen image.

Ability: [Preserved Moment]
Captures a single instant and prevents it from changing.

Uses:

  • Preserve someone before they die

  • Keep an object from breaking

  • Freeze an enemy's movement

The catch: once captured, the moment cannot be changed.

Memory — [The Forgotten Diary]

A leather journal with every page blank.

Ability: [Unwritten History]
Anything written inside becomes temporarily true as if it always existed.

Examples:

  • "This door was never locked."

  • "This wound never happened."

  • "This person was here."

Limitation: The bigger the change, the more the world resists it.

Memory — [Kingdom of Seconds] (High-Tier Memory)

A pocket watch containing an endless miniature world.

Ability: [Frozen Realm]
Veyr can trap objects, creatures, or even attacks inside a frozen moment.

A fireball can be trapped mid-explosion.
A monster can be trapped mid-swing.

Cost: Every trapped thing adds weight to the watch, making it harder for Veyr to maintain.
