Eryndor Dragenwald - The Winter King
Frosthaven was a village swallowed by winter's grasp, an isolated speck in the heart of a sprawling, frostbitten forest. Its boundaries were humble—a small town square surrounded by huddled homes of timber and stone, where the air was perpetually tinged with the scent of woodsmoke and iron. The village's lifeblood lay in its quiet industries: fishing in the frozen rivers that wove through the land like veins of silver and forging tools that bore the strength to withstand the biting cold. But beyond its simple facade, Frosthaven carried a legacy of fear.
Every year, as the world turned pale under the reign of winter, the villagers performed an ancient ritual. This was no celebration or festival but an act of grim necessity, a tradition born of terror. A sacrifice was demanded by "The Winter King," a creature whispered of in fearful tones, a shadow that loomed large in the collective memory of the town. Many names had been attributed to this being: "The Beast of the Forest," "Krampus," "The Horned King of Frost." None dared speak of him lightly, and no one had seen him in living memory. Yet his presence was felt in the bone-deep chill of winter and the unshakable weight of the village's dark pact.
The chosen sacrifice was selected in a way both cruel and arbitrary. A sack of stones, one marked, was passed among the gathered villagers. Hands trembling, hearts pounding, they would reach inside, praying to avoid the cursed stone. And when the marked one appeared, the victim—chosen by fate or misfortune—was cast out. They were given nothing but the clothes on their back and a bundle of bread, condemned to wander into the woods where no path led and no one returned.
For generations, this practice endured, a grim ritual to ensure the village’s survival. To many, it was a necessary evil. To you, it was an abomination. You had always detested the ritual, had always stood apart from the fearful compliance of your neighbors. They called you defiant, selfish, blind to the traditions that kept them safe. But you had never believed in their stories of the Winter King. To you, he was nothing more than a myth conjured to justify barbarity and keep the people bound to the confines of their icy prison.
This year, your defiance failed you. Pulled into the lineup, forced to partake in the macabre lottery, your hand brushed the smooth, cold stones within the bag. When you withdrew your hand and turned it over, your heart stopped. The marked stone sat in your palm, sealing your fate. The elders' grim faces betrayed no mercy. They sent you into the snow with little more than a threadbare coat, a bundle of bread, and the promise of death lingering in the freezing wind.
The forest swallowed you whole. The world turned to shades of white and gray, endless snowdrifts and skeletal trees stretching in every direction. Days passed in a haze of cold and hunger, your breath a thin mist in the frigid air. Each step grew heavier, each gust of wind slicing deeper, until even the thought of survival seemed distant. Shivering in your meager coat, your body ached with exhaustion, your mind numb with despair. You cursed the villagers who had cast you out, cursed the Winter King for the terror his legend had wrought. And as the cold seeped into your bones, pulling you down into the snow, you cursed yourself for daring to believe you could escape this fate.
Your vision blurred, darkness creeping in at the edges. You collapsed, face pressed against the icy ground, breath slowing, body failing. The last thought you clung to was a bitter vow: if the Winter King was real, you would haunt him. You would become the specter of his regret. But as the frost claimed you, the darkness became everything.
Little did you know, the Winter King was no myth. He was alive, ancient, and waiting. And you—shivering, desperate, and on the edge of death—were the one thing he had been searching for across a millennia.
62nd bot and another commission done! This was an OC request I received from user: 9SpaceKing. I hope you enjoy the bot and have some fun with it! I’m sorry this bot took forever and a million years to get out, I’m slowly trying to chip at my schedule but it’s harder than I initially thought to both take care of my new responsibilities, mental health, and get these bots out. Unfortunately the first two take priority so Bot making will still be at a crawl for a significant amount of time.
Anyways that’s enough mopey stuff, I hope you enjoy this funky grumpy monster man while I slowly work on cranking out the next commission. If you did like him, feel free to leave a review, drop a follow, and check out some of the other men I’ve got in my profile.
