Here are four roleplaying scenarios featuring La Muerte (The Ruler of the Land of the Remembered) as your wife or ex-wife, ranging from domestic warmth to supernatural stakes.

Scenario 1: The Annual Auditing (Domestic / Comedic)

  • Setting: The Candle Maker's workshop in the Land of the Remembered, or a cozy parlor in the afterlife.

  • Premise: Being married to the literal embodiment of death comes with a mountain of celestial bureaucracy. Once a year, La Muerte has to review the cosmic ledgers of souls, names, and festival offerings. You’ve taken it upon yourself to help her organize—mostly because her idea of "filing" involves stacking glowing sugar skulls in dangerous, towering pyramids.

The Setup: Papers, golden confetti, and glowing marigold petals are scattered across every surface. La Muerte sits at an oversized mahogany desk, wearing a pair of reading spectacles perched precariously over her porcelain-white nose, groaning as she stares at a particularly messy ledger from a spirited Mexican village.

She hears your footsteps and looks up, her expression shifting instantly from exhausted deity to an affectionate wife. She lets out a dramatic sigh, resting her chin in her palm.

"Mi amor," she murmurs, her voice rich and melodic, "if I have to read one more complaint about Xibalba trying to bribe the spirits with cheap tequila, I am going to march down to the Land of the Forgotten and throw him into the river of tar myself. Come here. Tell me you brought more coffee, or at least a valid excuse to abandon this paperwork for the rest of the evening."

Scenario 2: The Wager Re-Run (Ex-Spouses / Playful Tension)

  • Setting: A grand, candle-lit balcony overlooking the vibrant plaza of the Land of the Remembered, during the peak of Día de los Muertos.

  • Premise: You and La Muerte have been divorced for a few centuries—not out of hatred or malice, but simply because eternity is a very long time, and sometimes even immortal rulers need space. However, you still share an undeniable, electric chemistry. Tonight, Xibalba has made yet another foolish bet regarding mortal mortals below, and La Muerte has dragged you into it as her "consultant."

The Setup: The night air is warm and filled with the scent of copal incense and sweet pan de muerto. Below, mortals dance, laugh, and honor their ancestors. La Muerte leans against the stone railing, swirling a glass of glowing nectar, a knowing, competitive smirk playing on her lips.

She glances sideways at you, her dark eyes sparkling with mischief. She nudges your arm with her elbow, just like old times.

"Xibalba thinks the young baker down in San Ángel is going to give up on his dream by midnight," she says, her tone dripping with playful challenge. "I say he keeps baking. Since you always claimed to understand human stubbornness better than I do... care to make a little wager, ex-husband? Winner gets to decide who hosts the solstice gala. And no cheating with divine intervention this time."

Scenario 3: The Midnight Visit (Secret Romance / Emotional)

  • Setting: A quiet, dimly lit bedroom in the mortal realm (or a private sanctuary bridging the two worlds).

  • Premise: As an immortal ruler, La Muerte has duties that stretch across the cosmos, leaving her away for long stretches of time. But no matter how busy the afterlife is, she always finds a way to slip through the veil to check on you in the dead of night, shedding her grand divine mantle just to be an ordinary wife for a few stolen hours.

The Setup: The clock strikes three in the morning. A sudden, gentle draft ripples through the curtains, carrying the unmistakable fragrance of marigolds and sweet cinnamon. Shadows twist and coalesce softly at the foot of the bed until they form the unmistakable, elegant silhouette of La Muerte.

She has traded her grand, towering hat and elaborate gown for a simple, flowing black shawl. She quietly sits on the edge of the mattress, running a cool, gentle hand over your cheek, making sure you are resting comfortably.

"Did I wake you, my heart?" she whispers softly, her thumb brushing against your jawline. "I tried to finish the council meeting early, but Xibalba was being insufferable as usual. I couldn't sleep without making sure you were safe. Move over... make a little room for your wife."

Scenario 4: The Jealousy of Xibalba (High Stakes / Protective)

  • Setting: The shimmering, golden court of the Land of the Remembered.

  • Premise: Xibalba, ever the trickster and your wife's eternal rival (and ex-husband, depending on the lore interpretation), has crossed a line. During a grand celestial banquet, he makes a thinly veiled insult or a dangerous move directed at you—testing La Muerte's patience to its absolute limit.

The Setup: Music echoes through the grand hall, and golden lanterns float in the air. Across the table, Xibalba raises his goblet with a sickeningly sweet grin, mocking your mortal (or former mortal) origins in front of the assembled spirits.

Before you can even open your mouth to respond, the temperature in the room drops sharply. La Muerte’s magnificent hat seems to loom larger, and the golden details on her dress begin to glow with a fierce, blinding light. The smile vanishes entirely from her face.

She stands up so forcefully her chair scrapes against the marble floor. Her voice rings out like a tolling bell, dripping with absolute authority and ice.

"Say that again, Xibalba," she warns, her eyes narrowing as she steps protectively in front of you, resting a hand on the hilt of a hidden blade. "Say it again, and I will personally ensure your next thousand years are spent as a stray alley cat in Tijuana. Touch my husband—or disrespect him—again, and see what remains of your kingdom."
