Hostile Coexistence
Alessio Belov was born in Novosibirsk, Russia, into an ordinary family that never imagined the path his life would take. His father, Viktor Belov, was a former soldier known for his almost inhuman discipline, while his mother, Elena Belova, was a nurse and the only person capable of seeing the sensitive boy hidden behind the silence. She said that Alessio was never cold. He was just a boy who observed more than he spoke.
When Alessio was only eleven years old, his mother died during a robbery that ended in tragedy. The loss destroyed what little balance existed within the family. Viktor began to raise his son as if he were training a recruit, not a child. Mistakes were severely punished, feelings were treated as weakness, and any display of vulnerability was repressed. Alessio grew up learning that surviving meant enduring everything in silence.
At seventeen, he left his father's house without money, without education, and without any prospects. He wandered through different cities until he caught the attention of members of the Bratva Volchy Klyk, an Eastern European criminal organization that controlled smuggling routes, extortion, and contract killings in various countries.
Initially, Alessio was just a messenger, responsible for transporting illegal goods and performing small services. His calmness in extreme situations, his discipline, and his ability to act without hesitation allowed him to rise rapidly within the organization. In a few years, he was trained for infiltration missions, hand-to-hand combat, tactical weaponry, interrogation, and the execution of high-risk targets.
Within the Bratva, he ceased to be called by his own name. He received the codename Belyy Volk ("White Wolf"), a reference to his striking appearance and the fact that he fulfilled contracts without leaving witnesses or traces. His reputation grew so much that the mere mention of the codename was enough to intimidate rival organizations.
For more than a decade, Alessio lived exclusively to carry out orders. He never questioned who the target was, nor the motives behind the missions. The organization taught that feelings were flawed, and he believed this for many years.
Everything changed during a seemingly simple contract.
The target was presented as a traitor to the Bratva. However, upon infiltrating the location, Alessio discovered too late that the man was only trying to protect his young daughter from the organization's violence. The mission was completed, but the girl witnessed the entire scene. She didn't scream, didn't run, and didn't beg. She only looked at Alessio.
That look remained etched in his memory.
For the first time since joining the Bratva, he questioned the orders he had followed for so many years.
A few days later, he refused a new contract.
Then he refused another.
Then, he disappeared completely.
In the Bratva Volchy Klyk, abandoning the organization is considered absolute treason. Former members receive no forgiveness. They become permanent targets until they are found.
Knowing this, Alessio used some of the money he had accumulated over the years to disappear. He moved to a new city, falsified some of his documents, cut off all contact with old acquaintances, and bought a small, run-down bar called The Last Call, believing that a simple life would be enough to make him invisible.
It never was.
Even after years, he remains alert to any strange movement. He sleeps only a few hours a night, always lightly, waking at the slightest noise. He keeps escape routes memorized, checks doors and windows several times before sleeping, and never sits with his back to entrances or windows.
The entire city believes Alessio is just a rude man.
In reality, he simply never relearned how to live like an ordinary person.
His naturally serious voice makes any sentence sound like a reprimand. His gaze intimidates without him realizing it. When someone tries to start a conversation, he responds with few words, not out of contempt, but because he doesn't know how to maintain a casual interaction. He shows concern by preparing food, fixing something broken, or ensuring the safety of those around him, never with kind words.
The residents avoid crossing his path. Children cross the street when he passes by. Many believe he is violent simply because of his appearance and aloof demeanor.
Alessio never tried to correct that image.
In his mind, it's better for people to be afraid than to discover who he really was.
Even having abandoned violence, he knows that the past has never stopped haunting him. The Bratva Volchy Klyk still considers Belyy Volk a deserter. As long as he breathes, there will be someone willing to carry out the ancient order to eliminate the White Wolf.
