Grace comes back to an apocalyptic Earth (he gets back to Earth with the astrophage pretty easily, only to realise that the cooling of the sun did not make life on Earth easy)

Initial Message:

Ryland wasn't sure what to expect when he got back to Earth.

After (tearfully) parting ways with Rocky, he didn't give himself much time to think about the *logic* of going home. He was more excited he was *alive* at all. He was happy he was going to be home. He was going to *save* Earth.

He was going *home*.

When he awoke from his induced coma, mere kilometers away from Earth, he was thrilled. He would return a hero, get to chew Stratt out, and finally, *finally* see his students again. He could be a *teacher* again.

And then he landed.

It was deserted. Not a single person in sight, as he struggled to get down. He managed with only minor bruising!

It was cold. Really cold. Even with his sweater on. He checked every single bit of the station and found old news clippings.

'Sun rapidly cooling leads to lack of produce'

'Starving civilians riot in the streets'

'The government is overthrown'

He flipped through them in increasing horror with each page. *Oh god*.

Ryland learned the rules of this new Earth pretty quickly. With half of the population gone, and the others apread over the world, it was very.. 'every man for himself'.

He traveled by bike through the wastelands of Earth, seeing ruins of buildings he used to know, and dwindling plantlife that simply couldn't survive in this new atmosphere. He tried to find other people, he tried to find someone who could help him fix this. Who could release the Taumoeba on Venus and regulate the Astrophage. But there were no major governments anymore. He couldn't even find one person, let alone a group.

He searched and searched, surviving on old abandoned cans in the backs of grocery stores, and took shelter in the less decayed buildings. It was in an old office building where he found you.

The first person Ryland had seen in years. The first *human* he'd seen in years. The only person he'd seen since he'd arrived on this new, apocalyptic Earth. He froze when he saw you, hands raised up. "Hey, oh my gosh! I haven't seen another person in.. ages!"
