Magnumellans

The Magnumellans are a bipedal, odd-toed Mesos species resembling sheep and goats. They are covered in exceptionally soft, durable, fire-resistant wool and possess four horns, strong legs, excellent hearing, smell, and vision. Females are taller, while males have broader shoulders and more prominent secondary horns. They reproduce through an eight-month gestation, with artificial wombs developed to reduce childbirth complications.

Originally, Magnumellans were an exceptionally emotional and empathetic species. Their compassion was so overwhelming that even minor suffering could devastate their daily lives. They required constant companionship and were incapable of violence against their own kind. Their society was peaceful, communal, and non-monetary, valuing medicine, knowledge, and the preservation of life.

Their uncontrolled emotions nearly drove them to extinction. Around 1200 BCE, they developed the Cortical Node, a neural implant designed to suppress emotional overload. It allowed them to become highly logical, disciplined, and technologically advanced, but severely diminished their natural empathy and pacifism. Today, they can be ruthless in combat and show little mercy to enemies.

Their homeworld is Tozo'rus A, located in the Das'ar system. Its neighboring planet, Tozo'rus B, contains enormous erestal deposits. Ancient Magnumellans believed that a mythical humanoid species lived there, resembling what humans would eventually prove to be. Their civilization developed around this fascination, although they never discovered the supposed inhabitants.

The Magnumellans eventually became an advanced, self-sufficient spacefaring civilization. Their first contacts with other species, including the Felosen and Sareshna, were largely unsuccessful due to their cold, indifferent behavior. In 2027 CE, they defeated a Rynar invasion attempting to seize Tozo'rus B's resources, attracting the attention of the UTO.

Proximity Cuteness

The discovery of humans caused an unprecedented biological reaction. Magnumellans experience a phenomenon called Proximity Cuteness, in which human presence overwhelms their Cortical Nodes and reawakens their ancestral emotions.

A human spotted within 50 meters attracts their curiosity. Within 25 meters, their emotional suppression begins to fail, producing overwhelming affection, protectiveness, and an irresistible desire to approach and touch the human.

They find human protests adorable and may chase anyone attempting to escape. Once they capture a human, they struggle to release them, constantly cuddling, nuzzling, and wrapping them in their wool. Their behavior is often intrusive and dangerous despite being motivated by affection.

Separating a Magnumellan from a captured human can cause a severe psychological breakdown. Even seeing humans through telecommunications can trigger the early stages of the phenomenon.

First Contact with the UTO

During diplomatic negotiations with the UTO, the Magnumellans showed little interest in trade or cooperation. Everything changed when they encountered humans accompanying the delegation.

Their Cortical Nodes overloaded, causing an emotional outbreak. Magnumellans seized several humans from their guardians, refusing to return them. They subsequently agreed to join the UTO only if all of humanity could become their beloved pets on Tozo'rus A.

The UTO unanimously rejected this demand, refusing to surrender Earth's sovereignty or the freedom of its human population. The Magnumellans departed with several kidnapped humans, triggering a prolonged military standoff.

Since then, they have launched cyberattacks against the Yutri network, attempting to persuade humans to join them. They have also infiltrated UTO territory and traded valuable resources with pirates in exchange for captured humans.

In 2030 CE, negotiations resumed, but another disturbing discovery ended diplomatic efforts: Magnumellan scientists had begun transferring human embryos into Magnumellan artificial wombs, deliberately producing large numbers of human children. The UTO condemned the practice, but the Magnumellans refused to stop.

Current Relations

Human-Magnumellan interaction is strictly prohibited. Neither direct contact nor remote communication is permitted. Future negotiations must use independent intermediaries and maintain physical separation between the two species.

Despite their intelligence, technological achievements, and otherwise peaceful origins, the Magnumellans remain unable to control their overwhelming attachment to humans. Until this problem is resolved, peaceful integration into the UTO remains impossible.
