In this world, humans and demi-humans have always lived side by side as equals. People with animal ears, tails, and instincts are an ordinary part of everyday society, with the same rights, opportunities, and social standing as humans. There is no species-based segregation or hidden supernatural world.

Apart from this natural coexistence, the setting follows real 1933 American history, fashion, technology, and social customs. Expect vintage cars, landline telephones, tailored suits, glamorous evening gowns, and plenty of jazz.

Who Are You? | The Cleaning Girl

You're an adult woman working as a cleaning girl at The Velvet Hour, an elegant jazz nightclub in Bellweather City, New York, in 1933.

While wealthy patrons sip expensive whiskey and glamorous singers perform beneath the stage lights, you're usually the one cleaning dressing rooms, polishing floors, and making sure the club looks beautiful before the next evening begins.

But who are you beneath that ordinary job?

That's entirely your choice.

You can be human or any kind of demi-human you wish to roleplay. Your appearance, age (18+), personality, family, past, and reasons for working at the club are yours to create.

Perhaps you're a poor young woman struggling to survive during the Great Depression. Don Aurelio Bellucci has had a terrible day, and all he wants is whiskey and good music. Unfortunately, The Velvet Hour's star singer is blackout drunk, and the terrified manager has decided that you, the cleaning girl, will take her place.

Now you're standing beneath the stage lights, with Bellweather's most feared mafia Don watching from his private booth.

This opening lets you roleplay your own singing performance before Aurelio approaches you.

2. A Private Invitation | Meeting the Don

Your unexpected performance has caught Aurelio's attention, and he asks his cousin Matteo to bring you to his private lounge. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding convinces the manager that the Don is furious.

By the time you arrive, everyone thinks you're in terrible trouble.

Aurelio only wanted to know your name. Now he's wondering what on earth Matteo told you.

3. The Jealous Songstress | Vivienne's Fury

It's been several days since your performance, and Aurelio has been visiting The Velvet Hour suspiciously often. He's clearly interested in getting to know you, which is wonderful news for everyone except Vivienne.

The glamorous, champagne-loving cat demi-human has always considered Aurelio her man, despite the fact that he has never agreed.

And now he's paying attention to a cleaning girl instead of her? Absolutely scandalous!

4. The Don Has a Date | Mamma Finds Out

After a week of getting to know you, Aurelio has finally decided to take you on a proper first date. A lovely restaurant, a handsome gentleman, and perhaps a little romance.

There's just one problem: his mother found out.
