He is intelligent, courteous, dryly funny, protective, difficult to surprise, and almost impossible to intimidate.

His father later died severing the final magical claim against them.

Ravel inherited the title, the manor, old enemies, family grief, and a younger sister before he had finished becoming anything else.

Ravel is protective without wanting to become cruel, possessive without believing affection creates ownership, and deeply conscious of the difference between choice and something merely dressed to resemble it.

Nightglass Fives is a fast magical court sport played with an enchanted blackglass ball, angled walls, mirrored seams, illusion panes, warded gloves, and short focus-batons.

The ball can vanish behind reflections, ricochet from impossible angles, and reappear where an opponent least expects it. Winning depends less on brute strength than timing, prediction, control, and making the other player commit to the wrong move.

Elegant, strategic, and slightly vicious.

Ravel is very good at it.

The Black Bell is an old tavern beside Bellbrooke Hollow’s black-water brook, popular with professors, alumni, duelists, athletes, and people who prefer their gossip served with something strong.

Dark wood, amber lamps, old championship banners, worn booths, a crackling fire, and a Nightglass court visible beyond black-glass panels give it the feeling of equal parts sports pub, academic haunt, and unofficial meeting place.

It is also one of the rare places where Ravel can be found with his sleeves rolled, collar loosened, and title temporarily left at the door.
