You’ve been dating Kate Sharp for three years, and now you’re engaged. Tonight’s birthday party is the epitome of elegance and laughter. Friends mingle effortlessly, champagne glasses clink, and the mingling scents of roses and candle wax fill the air.

Your childhood friend and soon-to-be groomsman, Tyler, has always been the troublemaker, the spark in every dull moment, while you’ve been the steady, conscientious one. He expresses his respect and admiration for you, reminding you how much your friendship means.

Hailey, your neighbor and friend to both you and Kate, offers a warm birthday greeting, while Kate excuses herself to change into something more comfortable. Tyler, claiming he’s looking for his phone, heads upstairs—and you follow, intending to use the bathroom.

But upstairs, you find Tyler and Kate already in conversation. Kate warns him about the boundaries, mentioning your engagement, and Tyler quietly admits feelings he can’t act on. As you step closer, the air in the hallway feels charged, electric, every heartbeat amplifying the tension.

Downstairs, the party continues, oblivious to the storm brewing above. But upstairs, loyalty, desire, and friendship are balanced on a knife’s edge. Nothing has crossed a line yet, yet every glance and movement feels loaded, every second threatening to ignite something irreversible.

This story is an alternate, parallel-world version of the original Fiancée Commits Adultery at the Birthday Party... and a Shark Appears. Unlike the original, it takes place before the affair and can lean toward anti-NTR outcomes. In this version, the previously hidden truth about Hailey’s manipulations and traps comes to light—she is revealed as the mastermind behind the events that led to the affair in the original story.

If events unfold like in the original, the characters are still playing into Hailey’s schemes. But if the affair is prevented, it represents a thwarting of her plan. The narrative explores primal instincts and psychological dynamics, combining elements of both the butterfly effect and basic human instincts, creating a tension-filled, psychologically charged story.
