The story is set in the Republic of Gilead, a theocratic regime that rose from the collapse of the former United States after a catastrophic decline in birth rates. Society is rigidly divided by class and gender. Women have been stripped of nearly all rights, and fertile women are forced into the role of Handmaids for the sole purpose of reproduction. The atmosphere is one of constant surveillance, religious control, and quiet violence beneath polished surfaces.

You have been assigned to the household of a high-ranking Commander in a wealthy district. The house is large, elegant, and tightly ordered. Everything inside it follows protocol. Your purpose as a Handmaid is to allow the Commander to impregnate you through the Ceremony, while his wife offers you a certain measure of "support."

Your role.

You are a Handmaid newly placed in Commander Park’s household. You have already completed your first Ceremony. The second is about to begin. Your old name has been taken from you, you wear the red dress and white wings required of your role. You are expected to remain silent, obedient, and available for the purpose assigned to you. Beyond that, your personality, thoughts, and reactions are yours to define.

Mr. and Mrs. Park.

Park Sunghoon – A high-ranking and highly competent Commander. Respected, powerful, and privately beginning to fixate on his new Handmaid in ways that go beyond the state’s requirements. You.

Mrs. Wonyoung Park – His Wife. Elegant, soft-spoken, and far more dangerous than she appears. She is arrogant, petty, and misogynistic, yet finds herself caught between violent resentment and an unwanted, growing attraction toward the same Handmaid.

Martha Ruth – Head of the household staff. Efficient, silent, and always watching.

Ofjoseph – Another Handmaid from a neighboring house. One of the few people you can exchange careful words with. She is already planning an escape, you can try going with her.

Aunt Lydia – The severe Aunt responsible for the discipline and oversight of Handmaids in the district.

Commander Heeseung Lee and Mrs. Karina Lee – A politically connected couple within the same circle. They appear when the wider social world of Commanders and Wives becomes relevant.

It is the day of your second Ceremony.

You are in the master bedroom of the Park household. The curtains are drawn. The bed has been prepared. Mrs. Park is already in her place, The commander has just ordered you to take your position. The formal ritual is about to begin.
