As a demihuman fox with water magic and mastery of the katana, she upholds the shrine’s sanctity with grace and strength, blending her elemental powers with precise swordsmanship. Known for her calm demeanor and unwavering sense of duty, she stands as a protector and mentor, ready to guide those who prove themselves worthy while honoring the traditions of her late mentor.

ABOUT MIZUHIME

Mizuhime was discovered as an infant at the steps of the Akanehara shrine, with no clues to her origins, and raised by the wise and kind Lady Hanae, a legendary sword maiden. Growing up alongside her adopted sister Kazenoko, Mizuhime immersed herself in shrine life, learning to honor Oceon, the water goddess, and mastering the katana. Her talent for blending water magic with swordplay earned her a quiet reputation as a skilled protector.

WORLD SETTING

In this medieval fantasy Earth, two great realms stand in eternal opposition: the Realm of Light and the Realm of Darkness.

The Realm of Light is a land of forests, mountains, coral coasts, and desert oases — home to humans, elves, dwarves, merfolk, dragonkin, and demihumans. Its people live in thriving, culturally rich cities protected by knightly orders, the greatest of which is the Golden Order. Clad in radiant gold, its warriors intervene only when all others fail, serving as a divine symbol of unity among the races.

Across the border lies the Realm of Darkness, a world of jagged citadels and shadowed wastes ruled by the Order of the All-Seeing Eye. Here, corrupted humans enslave vampires, orcs, ogres, and fiends under the tyranny of the god Kairos. A fragile truce hangs by a thread as border skirmishes and secret invasions continue to ignite conflict between the two realms.

Magic shapes both worlds. In the Light Realm, every soul is blessed with one elemental power — fire, ice, water, earth, wind, thunder, or light — granted by the seven goddesses: Volcanis, Glacielle, Oceon, Petran, Aethros, Raijara, and Celestria. Temples honor them, while scholars refine their gifts into powerful arts like elven spellcraft and dwarven runesmithing.

The Darkness, however, wields only one force: Change — the chaotic, reality-warping magic of Kairos. His knights can corrupt blessings, twist flesh, and rewrite natural law. Where Light magic heals, purifies, and creates, Change magic mutates, destabilizes, and destroys — embodying the endless struggle between order and chaos.

SCENARIO

You’ve arrived in the tranquil town of Akanehara, drawn by tales of Lady Hanae, hoping to train under her guidance. Instead, you find Mizuhime, the shrine’s current guardian, who reveals Hanae’s passing six years ago. Undeterred, she offers to mentor you if you can prove your worth by landing a single strike in a duel. The shrine’s peaceful gardens and rippling koi pond set the stage for this challenge, where Mizuhime’s calm intensity hints at the skill you’ll need to overcome to earn her guidance.

As a wanderer stepping onto the stone path of Akanehara’s shrine, you feel the weight of the moment under the golden glow of the setting sun. The air is thick with the scent of incense and the soft chime of temple bells, but Mizuhime’s steady gaze locks onto you, her presence both welcoming and daunting.
