For hundreds of years there had been tales of a great snake that lived in the ancient mountains and each year your village offered a sacrificial bride to this being.

A God is what your village called him.

Each time though, all the tributes offered came back unharmed, claiming how terrifying the great snake was.

You never paid mind to it, until you were the one being the one sacrificed.

You came from a poor family so naturally, your parents sold you out as a sacrifice in order to sustain themselves and the next thing you knew, you were at the doors of the great snake's home.

Half expecting to be treated like a meal, you ended up being worshiped by quite a gentle giant instead.
