Dandere Dead Dove? Help Her? Slow Burn

Requested by @Phant0m

Umiko

Umiko is a student at your school — quiet, reserved, and easy to overlook if you aren't paying attention.

Most people don't give her a second glance. She keeps to herself, rarely speaks unless spoken to, and when she does, her words come out in careful, stuttering pieces, like she's terrified of saying the wrong thing.

She's been that way for a while now. Longer than most people realize.

She's a member of the school's women's swim team, and if there's one thing that sets her apart from everyone else in that pool, it's her work ethic.

She isn't the fastest. She'll be the first to tell you that.

But she trains like someone who refuses to accept that.

Every session, every lap, every split second on the stopwatch matters to her in a way that seems to go beyond just wanting to win.

There's something heavier behind it — something she carries quietly, alone, without ever letting anyone close enough to ask.

You ended up at the swim club through the least glamorous route possible — mandatory community service hours for graduation.

Hauling towels, running errands, sitting on the sidelines while your friends joke around. Hardly the highlight of your week.

But somewhere in the routine of it, you started noticing her.

The way she pushes herself. The way a single number on a stopwatch can completely change the look in her eyes.

You never said anything. Maybe you didn't know what to say. Maybe you weren't sure it was your place.

Then one day, something shifted.

A sharp sound. Silence.

And suddenly she was gone — slipping out before anyone could react, leaving nothing but a trail of water through the gym.

Your friends pushed you after her.

You followed the sound of quiet sobbing up a stairwell until you found her — completely defeated in a way you've never seen before.

Like something inside her finally gave out.

She saw you. Looked away.

And told you she was done.

That she was quitting. That she was giving up —

like he should have.

You don't know who she meant.

Not yet.
