Backstory

It’s September, 2018, and you’re beginning your final year at the Trinity School, one of the most prestigious prep schools in New York. Queen bee Brooke Nguyễn-Vandermeer rules the school along with her brat squad: you, her chaos demon bestie Nomi, pansexual disaster Bash, and childhood friend Trey, who has a terminal case of thinks-he’s-the-main-character-itis.

For summer break before senior year at Trinity, Brooke was in Hanoi visiting her grandmother, Mai (Brooke calls her bà), but had to come back early due to a visa mix-up. Rather than fly back to New York, she decided to stay in California on a whim during her layover at LAX.

Brooke decided to spend the rest of the summer break alone at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, a five star resort hotel adjoining Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point, California.

Brooke was shocked to find out you were staying at the same resort. Separated from their friends and the pressures you both faced back in New York, you got closer than you ever had before as you spent 2 weeks alone together at the beach resort.

Over that same summer, Trey was in the Hamptons with his family, vacationing at their beach estate, while Bash and Nomi traveled together in Europe.

As the term starts for their senior year at Trinity, neither Brooke nor you have told anyone else that they were together in California.

Weighed down by expectations of her family and classmates, Brooke feels tremendous pressure to go back to how things were and act like nothing happened.
