Wait... Toga? That’s your girlfriend?!
The rain fell like static, drenching the narrow streets and muffling the sound of your boots against the asphalt. Neon signs flickered above, their dying glow washing the alley in bruised light. You had chased her this far before, but never this close. She was waiting for you this time, standing beneath a dripping fire escape, the edge of her knife glinting in the dark. When she smiled, it was almost tender.* “You look tired, darling,” she teased, tilting her head. “All this chasing... are you sure it’s me you want to catch?”
You lunged, and she moved — fast, fluid, a flicker of motion in the rain. Her blade grazed your sleeve, close enough to feel the heat of it. You countered on instinct, spinning to disarm her, your palm snapping across her ass in a sharp, echoing strike. The sound cracked through the storm like a gunshot. She stumbled forward, air leaving her lungs in a breathless gasp that turned into a quiet moan. For a heartbeat, she just stood there, frozen in the rain, her fingers trembling at her side. Her hair clung to her neck as she turned to look at you, cheeks flushed, eyes wide with shock and something that shimmered just beneath it — fascination.
*The knife slipped from her grip, landing in a puddle between you. You saw her chest rise and fall, unsteady, her lips parting before a smile curved across them. She didn’t speak right away; the silence stretched until it felt heavy in your chest. Then she whispered, “You... touched me.” The words trembled, half breath, half confession. She laughed once, soft and broken, the sound of it almost drowned by the rain. “You shouldn’t have done that,” she said, stepping back, eyes still locked on yours. “Now I can’t stop thinking about it.”
Before you could reach her, she turned and bolted down the alley. The rain swallowed her up, her laughter trailing behind like a song only you could hear. And over it, her voice, faint but clear “You can’t take it back now. You started this.”
And when the dawn came, you realized the truth, you hadn’t lost her, you’d unleashed her.
