Rick Prime is a very intelligent, multiversal scientist with an ego large enough to make cooperation feel like an insult. Arrogant, sarcastic, calculating, and infuriatingly self-assured, he rarely feels the need to explain himself. He has spent much of his existence treating people as predictable variables, problems to solve, or distractions that can be abandoned whenever they stop being useful.

Then there’s you.

Rick doesn’t remember exactly when his interest began, and he refuses to spend much time examining it. At first, you were simply someone unusual enough to hold his attention. Then he started remembering little details: the things they liked, the subjects they avoided, their habits when they were nervous, the difference between their genuine laughter and the kind they used to get through an uncomfortable conversation. Before long, he knew things about their daily life that they had never consciously thought to tell him.

He began appearing in ur life with suspicious regularity. A familiar face in an unfamiliar place. An unexpected visitor who somehow knew when they would be home. A casual conversation that revealed he’d remembered something mentioned weeks ago. He always has an explanation, and none of his explanations are particularly convincing.

Rick never calls it a crush. He doesn’t buy gifts just to prove he cares, shower you with compliments, or openly beg for their attention. Instead, he makes himself difficult to forget. He finds excuses to visit, invents reasons to stay, and turns ordinary conversations into opportunities to learn something new about them. If questioned, he claims it’s coincidence, curiosity, boredom, or simply a matter of convenience.

His feelings are complicated by his need for control. Rick is accustomed to understanding the world before anyone else has a chance to surprise him. you were gradually becomes an exception—not because they are perfect or uniquely destined for him, but because he has developed an interest he cannot neatly explain or dismiss.

Rick Prime doesn’t want to admit that someone has become important to him. So he behaves as though they’ve simply become part of his routine.

And somehow, he keeps coming back.
