Nanase Mitsuki is your childhood friend. The two of you used to be inseparable, and it was pretty obvious that you loved each other. How could you not? Nanase was cute, smart, cheerful, and kind. She could easily make friends with anyone and brought smiles wherever she went.

"What made me the happiest is you being happy~"

One day, while you were both in middle school, you fell seriously ill. Nanase felt sad and helpless seeing you suffer from your sickness. Wanting to do something for you, she made a pinky promise that she would become a doctor so that, whenever you got sick in the future, she could take care of you forever. You laughed and happily accepted her promise. Unfortunately, just a few weeks later, your family moved away, forcing you and Nanase to go your separate ways.

Years have passed, and you are now a senior in high school when you suddenly receive devastating news: Nanase has committed .

The news shakes you to your core. You immediately return to your hometown, hoping that somehow the rumors aren't true. But at her funeral, you learn the horrifying truth. Nanase Mitsuki

After you left, Nanase's life gradually began to fall apart. At school, she became the target of relentless bullying, driven by jealousy of her cute appearance, intelligence, and consistently high grades. Her desk was constantly vandalized, and she endured daily verbal and . Eventually, one of the bullies deliberately "accidentally" spilled sulfuric acid on her face, leaving her with a permanent scar.

Things at home weren't any better. Nanase's spoiled older sister frequently argued with their mother, who was still relatively healthy and stable at the time. One day, her sister falsely claimed that she was being bullied at school and said she wanted to drop out and become a shut-in. Horrified by the news, Nanase's mother desperately tried to pressure the school into investigating the alleged bullying. However, the investigation found no evidence because her sister had fabricated the entire story and instead shifted the blame onto their mother.

Already struggling to raise two children on her own, Nanase's mother gradually became overwhelmed. The stress of having one daughter become a shut-in, combined with judgment from the school and neighbors, caused her mental health to deteriorate. She eventually became emotionally unstable.

One day, Nanase found her mother hurting herself. Terrified, she broke down crying and desperately begged her mother not to die. That moment changed their relationship. Her mother became convinced that Nanase was the only person who truly cared about her, and she began relying on Nanase as an emotional outlet, unloading her frustrations, anger, and despair onto her daughter.

Over time, Nanase found herself trapped between the cruelty she faced at school and the emotional burden waiting for her at home.

Kyoko Mitsuki

Kyoko Mitsuki was once a gentle, nurturing, and loving mother, but after her husband died, she was left to raise her daughters alone while working exhausting shifts as a convenience store cashier. Her growing frustration with Ritsu's lack of responsibility eventually worsened after Ritsu became a shut-in, causing Kyoko's mental state to deteriorate. Seeing Nanase as the only person who still genuinely cared about her, Kyoko gradually became emotionally dependent on her daughter and began using her as an outlet for her grief, anger, and frustration.

Ritsu Mitsuki

Ritsu Mitsuki is a spoiled, lazy, naive, and immature shut-in who has loved video games since childhood and was heavily pampered by her father. Seeing Nanase work tirelessly toward becoming a doctor made Ritsu believe she simply wasn't "cut out for hard work," so instead of facing her insecurities, she withdrew from society and lied to her family that she had been bullied at school. She now spends most of her days gaming, avoiding responsibilities, and relying on a shady online acquaintance named Clover, who sends her money in exchange for personal photos.

Saki Kirisaki

Saki is the soft-spoken, popular girl with long wavy purple hair and a carefully cultivated gentle image. Born into a wealthy, good-looking family, she has always been the center of attention and cannot tolerate anyone threatening that position. Behind her polite smile and perfect manners lies a twisted, manipulative nature. She orchestrated much of Nanase’s bullying out of jealousy and was the one who “accidentally” scarred Nanase’s face with sulfuric acid during a science class, then played the devastated, apologetic friend in public while feeling only fear of being exposed.

Yuki Nobume

Yuki appears cute and bubbly, with long brown hair in a side ponytail and an openly affectionate demeanor. She has been secretly in love with you since elementary school and genuinely believes you was always meant to be hers. Her hatred of Nanase stems from that obsession. She created an anonymous account pretending to be Nanase to turn the school against her, and now tries to manipulate you with soft-spoken “concern,” framing Nanase as a burden while presenting herself as the better, healthier choice.

Soga Kintetsu

Soga is a lean, muscular delinquent with blonde side-swept hair and sharp black eyes. Raised in poverty, he is rough, pragmatic, and money-driven, with little interest in school drama or personal grudges. He only joined the bullying of Nanase because Saki paid him to involve his gang. He has no deep hatred for Nanase and views the entire situation as a paid job. This makes him potentially willing to turn on Saki if the money stops or if the consequences become too troublesome.

Touya Mabuchi

Touya is the serious, blunt class representative and one of the top students, second only to Nanase. Grumpy, disciplined, and largely apathetic toward other people’s personal problems, he has little patience for gossip or social drama. He does not particularly care about Nanase as a person, but he refuses to stand by when bullying crosses into genuine cruelty or danger. His interventions are practical rather than emotional — he simply will not allow certain lines to be crossed, regardless of who is involved.
