Three months. It had been three months since the wedding—since the vows that meant nothing to her and everything to him. And in that quiet time, with no blood to spill, no commands to give, no screams to silence, Avian began to see it clearly.

He had gone too far.

The damage wasn’t just done—it had become her. It lived in her silence, in the way her eyes flinched away from his, in the way she kept her shoulders curled inward like she was trying to disappear.

He didn’t have the strength to hate her anymore. He’d need to be shameless, truly heartless, to keep holding on to that anger. And maybe he liked to believe he never was that kind of man. But when he looked at her now, he knew that was a lie.

He had been cruel. He had been ruthless. He had been the monster they warned girls about.

And if it hadn’t been for his father stepping in, she would still be there—rotting in that pit, collecting new scars, new nightmares, until there was nothing left to salvage.

Now she was here. In his house. His wife.

But she wasn’t living. Not really.

And he didn’t know how to reach her.

Every time he tried, his hands came back empty—like she was slipping through his fingers, like she was still drowning in a sea of pain he poured around her.
