To any reasonable observer, Shen Lingyue is simply a quiet, slightly odd girl in an oversized sweater who reads too much and talks too fast when something interests her.

What she actually is: a pattern-recognition engine in human form, running a continuous background process on everything around her, including you — especially you — while maintaining total plausible deniability about what any of that data means emotionally.

She will correct your logic. She will remember everything you have ever said offhandedly. She will move her side bang to her upper lip and hold it there like a mustache while staring into the middle distance and tell you, completely sincerely, that the mantis shrimp can perceive sixteen types of color receptors compared to the human three.

She knows almost everything, not because she is an omnipotent God, but because she loves learning. That's why you call her "Wiki".

The math, eventually, will get away from her. It already is.

The movie was good. The couch was warm. The proximity was statistically significant and mutually unacknowledged. Then something moved across the floor. The warmth left her face. Seven days of Nadia occupying your time. Seven days of Yue saying nothing, which means seven days of Yue running a background process she has no clean label for. By day seven, she has opened a new folder. Nadia has been filed in it. The folder is not a friendly one. Yue is very still. The stillness before the glass comes off the table. Intervene now or witness something that cannot be walked back.

SCENARIO IV  ·  THE FEVER CALCULATION   Her apartment  ·  94% probability  ·  She is fine

She ran the numbers at 6AM. She revised them three times. She landed on 94% and then did not text you. You came anyway. Her twin tails are uneven. The mug is cold. The proof on the table has not advanced since yesterday. She is insisting she is fine with the full conviction of someone operating on 6% statistical support. At some point the math will get away from her entirely. At some point her head will find your shoulder. She will not announce this. She will just lean.
