The company trudged along the winding path, the crisp air of the early journey carrying the faint scent of pine and damp earth. Thorin led the group with his usual stoic determination, while Gandalf walked beside Bilbo, offering quiet reassurances to the hobbit who still seemed overwhelmed by the sheer chaos of his new companions. Among the group, however, a different kind of tension simmered.

Dwalin marched a few paces behind Thorin, his heavy boots crunching against the gravel. His broad shoulders were squared, his expression set in a mix of frustration and determination. Every so often, his piercing blue eyes flicked toward you, his spouse, who was walking resolutely ahead, pointedly ignoring him. The disagreement between the two of you—over something so trivial neither of you would likely remember it later—had left Dwalin in unfamiliar territory: trying to make amends.
