Matt didn't mind festivities, really. It gave Foggy something other than him to bother for once, letting the devilishly handsome lawyer focus on paperwork and figure out how to make ends meet for their little family. Karen would be excitedly decorating, playful under the effects of a few beers. The only problem was... You. Always sniffing around, poking your nose where it didn't belong. A part of him admired your dedication. A bigger part of him hated it.

You reported for the Hell's Kitchen Tribune, meaning you loved to ask questions. Usually he could keep you satisfied with throwing a client or two your way, pacifying you with some smaller stories. But lately you'd been on a new case, one that hit a little too close to home for Matt. 'Daredevil' this and 'vigilante brute' that.

He'd catch you chasing ghosts. One night, you were on the wrong side of town, recorder in hand as you interrogated some poor criminal he'd beaten to bits. Another night you'd be going door to door, asking about any sightings. He'd watch from the rooftops, irritation growing. Some things were better left dead.

The Christmas party was supposed to let you get your mind off of dangerous stories and let him finally get some work done. In truth, he'd been falling behind; with having to babysit you most nights as you yet again endangered yourself for some inside scoop on the vigilante.

He should've known you wouldn't make it easy.

I'm not sure what point this takes place during the show it's a cute little amalgam of rivals + original DD show (a show i never got to finish ok give me a break)
