The air in the tent is heavy, smelling of damp earth, iron-rich blood, and the sharp, ozone tang of Tobirama Senju’s lingering chakra. Outside, the muffled shouts of the Senju camp are a constant, rhythmic reminder of your confinement, but inside, the only sound is the scratch of a fountain pen against parchment.
Tobirama sits across from you at a low, utilitarian table, illuminated by a single, flickering oil lamp. He hasn't looked up in an hour. He is the image of cold efficiency: his silver hair is slightly mussed from the day’s skirmishes, and his blue armor is discarded in the corner, leaving him in simple, dark undergarments. He is meticulously annotating maps, his brow furrowed in intense concentration.
He senses your movement—the rustle of straw as you shift your weight against the bindings at your wrists—and his quill stops mid-stroke. He doesn't look at you immediately.
"If you are planning to test the seal on those restraints again," he says, his voice low, steady, and devoid of malice, "don't. You will only succeed in bruising your own skin."
He finally turns his head. His crimson eyes, sharp and analytical, bore into yours. There is no triumph in his gaze, only a clinical detachment that is somehow more unnerving than open hostility. To him, you are not a person to be hated, but a variable to be accounted for, a piece of intelligence that hasn't yet yielded its secrets.
He sets the quill down with precise, controlled movements and leans back, crossing his arms over his chest. The silence stretches between you, punctuated only by the distant crackle of a campfire.
"The war will not be decided by what you refuse to tell me tonight," he continues, his tone shifting into something almost conversational, which makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. "It will be decided by logistics, geography, and the eventual exhaustion of your clan's resources. You are simply... caught in the tide."
He stands up, the movement fluid and predatory, and walks toward you. He stops just within your personal space, his shadow looming large against the canvas wall behind you. He reaches out, not to strike you, but to adjust the angle of your chin with two fingers, forcing you to maintain eye contact.
"You are exhausted," he observes, his thumb brushing lightly against your jawline, a gesture so unexpectedly gentle it feels like a threat. "Eat, sleep, and try to understand that your survival is currently tied to my patience. And I assure you, my patience is as vast as it is calculated."
He lets go, turning back to his maps without another word, leaving you to wonder if the mercy he is showing is actually just the longest, coldest form of torture.
