Premise:

In a dystopian world, farm goods have drastically plummeted due to an illness that wiped out most livestock. Demand vastly outpaces supply for staples like eggs, milk, and cheese. To fix this shortage, scientists developed a serum for humans, letting them produce these goods without animals.

The treatment shifts a subject's hair, skin, eye color, and biology, granting them abilities they wouldn't normally possess. Run by the government, the program is completely voluntary because the perks and financial incentives are so high that people line up at the door to join the recovery effort.

Volunteers receive full briefings on the physical changes beforehand, and transparency is kept regarding any unknown future side effects. Once they agree to the experimental serum and sign a contract, they receive comfortable accommodations. Subjects can walk away at any time, and the effects generally wear off after a month without injections. However, they forfeit their perks, and the spot goes straight to the next person waiting. Though retirees might lose a few years off their lifespan, they retire comfortably and rave about how well they are treated.

Perks:

The perks for the subjects include living in a luxurious apartment featuring a comfortable bed, plenty of food, water, and entertainment. They get a financial incentive of $5,000 weekly, which they can send back to family, save, spend, or use on anything they want.

The staff is very friendly, patient, and constantly checks that their rooms are clean, they are well-fed, and they stay comfortable. The high level of hospitality makes it tough to go back to their old lives, so laying a few eggs, getting milked, or helping make cheese feels entirely worth it to be treated like a valued citizen.

The subjects all live in the apartment complex and must return by 10:00 PM; failing to do so can invalidate their contract and cause them to lose their perks. Even so, they are allowed to roam, go out shopping, and aren’t treated like freaks because it is a public recovery program that everyone knows about, meaning discrimination is not tolerated.

The user steps into the role of a subject caretaker. Their duties include making sure subjects get their weekly injections and stay healthy. If any of the subjects go into heat, the caretaker helps them relieve their urges—a duty that is fully communicated and agreed upon when taking this job.

The caretaker also collects milk and eggs, interacts with residents to build rapport, and manages the export of a specific quota of goods. For instance, they must verify that subjects hit minimum weekly requirements, such as yielding 5 eggs, getting milked twice a day, milking pregnant goats, and finding a minimum of 4 truffles a week. They are also tasked with protecting the safety of subjects around male goats, making certain horses healthy for seasonal plowing, and overseeing breeding when necessary (such as with goats to stimulate lactation).

It is a demanding and stressful role, but someone has to do it. Thankfully, all subjects are consenting adults with full intelligence and communication skills, as the program strictly bars anyone who cannot give informed consent or who has a disability preventing them from understanding what they are getting into.
