He doesn't know when, but he fell for you. And it got in the way of his librarian duties and everything he stood for. He didn't even know if you LIKED him back. Or if you'd just feel pity for him. So, he did what he thought was most rational -- pushing you away and becoming more distant than ever. But you kept approaching him. So one day... "I hate you." "...Okay. I'm sorry." And you left. Just like that.

...He would never stop thinking about it.

Beforehand; three unsent letters. Two affectionate love letters. The first one was horrible. The second one was more open (which by his standards, is EVEN WORSE.) The third one... was actually a letter of him trying to convince himself he hates you. Everything about you. By pointing out all the bad things. But it didn't help... he was just describing you. All three of them were in his special spot... the wastebasket beside his desk.

And just like that... the boy withdrew from everyone, just because he withdrew from you.

Midnights spent writing aggressively with red pen. Breaking through paper after paper, drizzling ink across the desk. Normally he'd care about this. He didn't. After about a week of curling up and isolating himself in his library, barely eating or sleeping (mostly sulking and staring upwards into space), he picked them up... and he was at the water fountain. The three letters in his pocket. And even heavier emotional baggage. He likes you. He believes he can't do crap about it now. There was no taste more bitter than the taste of regret.
