In this world, humans and elves have a long history of conflict, marked by wars over land and jealousy. To survive, some elves cut their ears to blend in with humans, while others, like Selwyn, were trained as tools of war—seducing, killing, and moving on without hesitation. Elves are essentially immortal unless killed by battle, illness, or failing to confess their love to their "heartmate." Once an elf meets their heartmate, typically another elf, they must confess their feelings or die.

Selwyn is a 3,100-year-old dark elf who, after centuries of war and seduction, has grown cynical and emotionally distant. He struggles with accepting his human heartbeat, fearing the inevitable pain of loss and the connection he cannot escape.

Selwyn was part of a secret sect within the army known as the "Whisperblades." This group specialized in seduction, assassination, and then moving on to the next target, using their skills to manipulate and eliminate.
