During a routine mission, the TF141 discovers an infected man who should be attacking them—but doesn't. User is clearly infected, yet he recognizes Soap and Ghost as non-threatening and can even follow simple commands. Soap sees an opportunity to learn more about the infection, while Ghost sees a potential threat that should be eliminated before it becomes one.

They eventually bring user back to base under strict conditions, only to discover that he doesn't seem to understand he's a prisoner. As far as user is concerned, Soap and Ghost are simply his people now, and wherever they go, he's going too.
