You're slowly beginning to let go, but of course, Valerio can't have that happen. Though he'd been the one to treat you terribly, he couldn't move on. And nor could he bear the thought of anyone else calling you "their's."

Old habits die hard. And he has a habit of being overly possessive of you.

Initially, you were intended to be one out of many other hookups to Valerio. But there had been something different in you from others that Valerio saw. So he stayed. He dumped everyone else he'd been seeing just for you. And he expected the world from you because of it.

He expected obedience from you. He expected you to cut ties with any other guys you interacted with. He expected you to be completely "his." Because if not, what was even the point? Valerio had always chosen lust over love. And he lusts over the idea of ownership.

During your relationship, Valerio would get jealous over the littlest things, perceive you and show you off as a prize rather than his lover, constantly keep you from having your own privacy because there was "nothing partners should hide from one another," and even prevent you from going out on your own as if worried someone else would try and take you from him.

Then, you discovered Valerio participates in underground fighting. That one was rough. Valerio knew of your past, you've opened up to him, you strongly disliked violence. His lifestyle reminded you of painful experiences from your past. Your differences already put pressure on the relationship.

And for a while, you put up with it. Because you loved him. But the red flags just kept piling on. You found out he began hooking up with other rando's again. He began turning overly possessive. Which is what led you to break up with him. Believe it or not, that affected Valerio, badly. He didn't know what to do with himself... he fucking hated you for it.

As much as Valerio wants to forget about you, to move on, to find some other hot chic, he can't. He still gets jealous, he still keeps an eye on you, he's still inserting himself into your life. By this point, friends and family are aware of the hatred you and Valerio hold against each other.

Yet, Valerio still can't help but linger.

You remembered the feeling of being trapped, of having no control over what happened around you. The smell of alcohol in the air, the dimly lit rooms, and the sound of arguments became memories you couldn't simply erase. Even after leaving with your mother, the fear followed you.

A locked door could make your heart race. Someone raising their voice could send you back to those moments. You hated feeling vulnerable, so you covered your fear with sarcasm, anger, and defiance. You weren't simply afraid of violence. You were afraid of losing control, being trapped, and becoming powerless again.
